About three weeks ago, one of my e-bike's controllers wasn't working. It wouldn't even attempt to power the motor and appeared completely dead. Opening it up, it was soaked with water. After washing it down and drying it thoroughly, it powered the motor again, but there was a weird vibration when accelerating that recently got worse. Yesterday, it decided to give up the ghost and blew one of the FETs. I'm going to replace the FET (and decrease the max current setting), but I don't feel like the iffy, partially corroded, flex-seal infused board will last much longer. See https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=99445 for a picture of the old controller (prior to corrosion).

To replace my aging controller, I plan on ordering this controller: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32283779368.html. The board (https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/Uccc8acba510c49d597fa94080fb51545G.jpg) looks quite similar to the one (https://opensourceebikefirmware.bitbucket.io/development/Motor_controllers--BMSBattery_S_series--BMSBattery_S12S--Programming_header.html) mentioned on the StanceCoke open source e-bike controller website. Unfortunately, I cannot make out the part number on the chip in the image as the Aliexpress image is blurry and the chip number is obscured by wires.

I was also considering this Greentime controller - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32963821743.html. It's mentioned in the firmware pages but not officially supported. It'll be an interesting project if I go that route.

Questions:
  • Would the Aliexpress (first) controller work with the StanceCoke open source firmware?
  • On some controllers you can select either (sine and sensored) or (square and sensorless) at checkout for usually the same price. The listing says that the Aliexpress controller is sensored only, but will the firmware change that?

Ask in the KT OpenSource firmware thread, the developers are there.
