ME1616 is a brushless, water-cooled IPM

44-48kg?

Apparently well-paired with size 6 Sevcon (pre-programmed by the vendor)

maybe 80Vdc would be efficient?

Any opinions, feedback welcome

especially cheaper and lighter kits that could get near this combo for power regen a must, ideally variable and true FOC

Application is big heavy tandem / cargo bike/trike, 26" O.D. wheels, long steep mountain slopes

This may help you decide, or at least show other options available. See links below video for the spreadsheet:

I'm using the sevcon gen4 size 6 80V and the ME1616. So far not at all satisfied with the result. Apart from the countless hours to set it up, I get a measured 60nm and 12kw out of this combination which is not at all impressive. My reseller gave me the combination with basic settings and the announcement "it turns so it should be ok".

To deal with the sevcon, you really need to know what you are doing as the (paid!!) accompanying software is very buggy, documentation not exhaustive, unclear and if you run into problems its virtually impossible to get any assistance both online and irl. How they dare to sell this to end users is beyond me.

If you can get a proven working setup from your reseller, I guess it can be an option. If your get it to work properly, I'm interested in the dcf file :)

Thanks for that. Do you mind linking to your reseller?

Seems that would be the most critical success factor.

Based on the feedback from others, that sounds about right. Their hardware is solid, but Borg Warner has stated that they don't want to deal with anyone but OEMs. Buying and keeping a usable key as an end user to program their controllers seems iffy at best.

So what else do you use? For me, Kelly or SME.

The software key does need to be re-licensed every year

but having a relationship with a decent dealer apparently can get you that for free.

I certainly would require that be bundled into any significant P.O., if not lifetime then at least say five years.

OEMs are a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

To keep this thread useful, I'd like to focus it on this specific motor or similar, and Sevcons

Please start a new thread to ask about / discuss alternatives.
