I have a new ESC from Lyen, I wired it up and my motor worked on the first phase/hall sensor combo I tried. Yipee! However.............

Under no-load conditions the motor spins twice as fast as I expected and draws 12A. Here's the low-down:

BLDC (not sure if wye or delta)
MFG says I should have a no-load RPM/current of 1333rpm/1.53A on a 48V supply.
It has 18 stator poles and 16 rotor poles.

Under no-load I measured 45V/11.75-12A @ 2800rpm. I used my CA for the current and voltage sampling and a didgital laser tach for speed.

I reloaded the ESC program to be sure that the parameters were correct - I "think" it's correct because the controller program was not very intuitive but I'm pretty sure I set the speed to 99% and transmitted the profile correctly.

I'm open to any ideas.

Which controller? How much current were you expecting under no load and why? Maybe your CA is not calibrated correctly (shunt values)...?

I was expecting 1.53A because that's what the MFG specified.

I'm using an Infineon based controller (Lyen's moded version).

I corraborated the CA data with a multi meter as well. They match exactly.

My only thought at this point is that maybe there is some weirdness with the controller and number of poles of the motor but that's just speculation on my part.

I figured it out. Bad phase combo. I rewired and now the motor soins as expected. :D

Cheers!
