5 days 'till kickstarter launch and they're still looking for a motor? wha?

Anyway, GM makes an 800W trike motor that is cheap and can produce a lot of torque when geared down to say 3:1..

Unite motor also makes 500-2200W trike motors. Many sellers on alibaba / aliexpress sell it. Even GNG sells them..

Either one would be suitable.

I'm just saying they are looking for a motor because I want the best motor in one of these to own.

If you want to make a dual reduction drive, then go for it :)

wont work with 10:1 reduction or Nuvinci hub ?

Sure, 10:1 would be a good ratio ( but that's dual reduction ). Not sure if a nuvinci will handle the power or not though.

organictransit writes .... " We are still playing around with motors (have a few we like just making a decision) and the drive train for the Kickstarter model features a 360 NuVinci Hub."

I am on the list

They are looking for the best motor and I would like to have the best motor on my unit

Just like every other "best motor question" that gets asked (a lot!) here on ES:

Best will depend on your specific purposes for the vehicle: speed you want to ride at, terrain you will ride on, mass of vehicle + rider + cargo (if any), how fast you expect it to accelerate, range you want to get out of it, type of controller you would rather use, and other factors.

20 mph 26" bicycle tires 8' long x 43" wide x 5' tall
360 Nuvinci hub

480w lithum battery pack , 88 volt
30 mile range
Built in 60w solar panels
PWM controller
750 watt permanent neodymium magnet motors
CVT drivetrain (continuously variable transmission) 360 NUVINCI rear hub
26" wheels front & rear w/20mm through axles
LED headlights, tail lights, and signals
Side mirrors
Disc brakes
Adjustable seat
350+ lb payload

prototypes weigh between 97-120 pounds (due to variations in materials and power components). The target weight for the production vehicle is 100 pounds. This includes the battery pack, motor, and solar panel.

How much weight can the ELF carry?

The frame can support a lot of weight, but the battery and motor are at their best carrying an average rider plus a maximum cargo of about 300 pounds. We get a lot of questions about this thanks to a small mistake in this TechCrunch article, but we assure you that several of us weigh more than 150 pounds and we have been scooting around just fine.

Depending on the motor that is chosen , I have been told it is a good buy.

Still arguing with them on what motor will be used .... Thats is why I am asking folks on this forum as to what would be he best motor in this application.

So far I have requested the ETEK brushed motor used by the electhron guys

I was going to try and diy a velomobile much like the elf and am wondering if I'm not better off buying one of the first on kickstarter

Depends on the motor and battery pack ???? Can't get any info because they are still testing . At this point I am trying to get them to consider the ETEK brushed..... ?

Anyone have any experience with this one ?
