Hello this is the Oregon High School Solar Car Team,

We are currently using a Cromotor for our solar car at the Solar Car Challenge in Dallas, Texas (http://www.solarcarchallenge.org/challenge/). Our 18 Fet Lyen Motor Controller has to be replaced due to our e-brake frying it in the race. We need to find any other Motor Contollers compatible with our Cromotor (V3), running on a 40 Volt system. We hope to replace our controller with the littlest programming necessary and get on the track again.

Maybe consider an adaptto max-e? You might appreciate the variable regenerative braking that can be configured with an adaptto setup. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym0afjek2LM

By frying, I am guessing you mean over heating it. If you end up simply getting a replacement lyen 18 fet, you could probably do a lot to keep the controller cooler. I have no idea where you are placing it, but obviously if a controller is covered or aerodynamically shadowed at all this could have a negative impact on keeping any controller cool. Beyond that, increasing surface area will help immensely. You could probably pretty easily remove the controller from the case, make a custom case and setup a coolant loop that connects the bar that the fets contact to to a radiator or all kinds of crazy stuff.
