I have made Makita rebuildable battery. Uses the top cover with a latch and screws.
Bought a trimmer and was not satisfied with run time. I can build 2 to 8P packs. Here is 3P 9.6AH:

Seriously awesome work there. I'd love to see a build thread on your custom power tool batteries.
For folks that have a few toys and don't rely on them for commuting, I still think having swappable power tool brick batteries is a great option. Not to mention you can rely on your tools to last much longer without worrying about going to the hardware store and finding out they don't make the ones in the proper shape to fit your tool anymore.
