Re: New 350w Bafang Crank Drive
Very interesting. But to actually build this into a bike one would need to know the chainline. Could you please add that information. Thanks.
If simplicity worked, the world would be overrun with insects.

Re: New Bafang Crank Drive
I will be comparing them side by side shortly, 350 isn't alot of power but then again 720w continuous is supposed to be what the US motor is intended to be... but even these do 15A continuous so it's just a matter of upping to 48v 15A if the motor can handle the thermals (the bafang)...usa_electrophile wrote:Interesting

Now they do have a bafang 750 motor but it may be a while till you see it in retail locations, getting samples is even difficult and time consuming... the 750 continuous should be just the right balance of weight to power and maintain (with a little help) legality - even a mode they seem to have forgotten from the factory (they didn't forget, it's compliant to EU laws... under US laws you can go above 20 mph if your pedaling and not exceeding 1hp OUTPUT not INPUT power).
I should have the most wide open version that was available by mid week next week, paypal request is in my box and I'm waiting for 3 fools who owe me some $$ to push the cash in, or else I'll just payout from my checking account but on testing things (that's what this is, its me being impatient and inquisitive... I should have my own samples from China ... in just under 2-4 weeks even using EMS) and hobby side of eBikes I like to sell the old stuff and get paid before paying for new stuff with that cash

I think the gen2 would beat the bafang honestly, if you get one without a bent bottom bracket shaft so that your chain ring reminds you of an eliptical machine... the bottom bracket they used just leaves alot to be desired - like more teeth, etc.. my Gen1 were great, gen #2... they didn't just send me one with a bent axle but they forgot the damn screw and spring for the chain tensioner.... Argh!
Well I can't wait to get this 350 in an ultra light build (downtube nova baby), already setup for 7 speeds (better for thicker chain) just need to add trigger shifters instead of twist and whalla - that will be the first victim of my new Bafang Crank Drive... want to hack the controller too... adjust the max voltage and LVC and run off 48v 10A constant 15A for 30 seconds pulses... should be plenty !
Regards,
Mike

Re: New Bafang 48v Crank Drive
I just finished my 350w 48v 15a Bafang mid drive install on my Trek Mamba.
All I can say is I will probably never buy a hub motor again.
This motor is easy to install (you will need tools to remove your crank).
You don't have worry about rim sizes, torque arms, drop outs, broken spokes etc.
My Mamba has a 9 speed cassette starting at 11T as well as 29er rims.
The Bafang motor comes with a 48T chain ring.
29er+48T+11T = 30 to 35 mph with a motor that weighs 7.5 lbs.
It hardly looks like an electric bike.
I can't wait to try it in low gear on hills.
I am really impressed!!!!!!!!!!!
I am using a 48v SLA setup for now until I can put together a lithium battery pack.
Photos attached.

How about a few videos ?
I wonder how fast this will go with 26 inch wheels ?
Where can you buy it anyway ?
There was a suggestion that it isn't as powerful as the Bosch ?
