Hub motor project!
Hub motor project!
Hi guys this is a sneak peek at my custom hubmotor project I have been working on for some time know. The motor screw onto any 8mm longboard axel! The urathan can be replaced and because of a lot of different design attempts we have found the best way to lock the urathan to the motor.
We are thinking of realeaseing the motors as open hardware or sell the motors for DIYers! We want to run a beta test soon to fix some more bugs and will allow some people to be apart of this.
We have also been working on CF stealth deck!
Please leave your feed back!
1000w so can be twin or single drive
Each motor weight is 1.35lb
Each motor has 2x ceramic bearings 1 on each side.
more discussion on the development of these motors are located here
https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... rdhubmotor
this is a link for crowd funding for a mould to be made for the wheels! the mould will be owned by endless sphere members and not by my self.
if the funding gets more then needed it will be used to fund other things like esc and controller!

Nice work! That looks freaking awesome!
How well do you think it will work going uphill?

Wow what a great job. I figured it was just a matter of time this would be developed. Any issue with debris and water from wet pavement getting inside? When will these be available to DIY'ers?

Re: Hub motor project!
Sweet!! I thought it'd be a long while before we got something like this. I think this is the best way to do it, no belts or motor mounts. Big question is how does this ride? What is the KV of the motor and what ESC are you using?
Put me on the list if you get some extra motors.

Re: Hub motor project!
I definitely like the idea and am keen towards it. However, I think that it will lack a lot of torque. More so for flat ground.
Can it climb hills?

Brilliant! Pair a couple of those with all electronics mounted in the deck ,of say, a slalom variety?...

Ever thought about putting the same ideas to a mountainboard setup?

Cool. ..
If they are under 100kv.. or twin motor design they should do the trick. .

Re: Hub motor project!
If designed right, I've got no doubts they can deliver all the torque needed for hills and things. Justin's hubmotor skateboard climbed the very long steep hill I live on like it was nothing.
Hubmotors seem like the sensible path for skateboard drive IMHO.

Hi guys! That's for the positive feed back!
Kv depends on wheel size, but 100kv even 80kv would be good but you loose out on coper and have to go thicker copper but making it sit in the small stator slots is key! Current kv we have tested is 100kv 150kv and 180kv! Power performs better with 180kv but 100kv is so much smoother for take of.
Esc's we have tested are!
Hobbywing
AP
E-cruiser straight motor swap:)
Sky rc toro
CC
All perform well!
Hill climbing is great with momentom/ high voltage passing through the motor.
Take off isn't as good on hills but this is because of the reduced resistance by not having a belt the deck just wants to roll back wards.
Take off is so much smoother! 1:1 ratio means momentum builds quicker and smoother!
Price depends on country we produce in and the amount we produce!
If we sell and operate from Australia then insurance and tax will drive the price!
To tell the truth I can get motor out with the wheel for $60 each just for hardware in lots of 100. but for $100 the quality is so much better! But then we add insurance shipping tax and profit for future production runs. We are looking at $150-$200 each motor. But if u think about it, $40 motor + $150 mount + $20 for 1 quality wheel + $10 belt depending on the kit $150 per motor is still a bargin even $200! But give me your opinions!
i had backers but the wanted to take control of my project so I got out!
The real problem is finding the money to get started! Kickstarter is an option but there are so many atm I feel I need this to be taken to the next level! Partnering with a deck like marbel would be cool!
But I'm a DIYer and I want to offer this as a DIY product!

I would buy 8 of them if the price is right and the motors are built right and reliable.
Re: Hub motor project!
Hi guys, iv had a request for about 20 motors:)Silenthunter wrote:I would buy 8 of them if the price is right and the motors are built right and reliable.
The build quality is going to be the priority of this run! I'm talking to some local factory's to have it produced in Australia. Or the parts I have been making so far have been from the same factory as momentum kits are produced!
But keep in mind this is still in testing stage and I'm looking for reliable people who know about DIY electric skateboards and can help make the product better. If you order then this will be the first big production and if we find problems we need to work to gether to fix them and I will inspect every motor before shipping! And I'll look to replace any that have problems. But if you do not feel this is at a progression you would like we will offer another production later!
Each motor will be $130 for this beta run, unless we can get the order up to 50 motors and then I it will be $100.
Australia customers will have free shipping!
world wide will be $40.
If price is reduced for any reason I will refund the gap!
When I send the invoices to those who ordered I will give the choice of half payment or full payment! The second half will be requested before shipping.
Invoices will be sent on the 5th and the if possible payment by the 15th when I will be placing the order for parts.
For those of the forum I feel will be great benifit to the project I will be sending a motor to the for free out of my own pocket!
I thank every one for there help and support!
Happy holidays and have a great new year!
Re: Hub motor project!
Who wants a functional motor/wheel combo if it only lasts 1000km and your forced to buy another. Can you go into more detail about changing & replacing worn wheels? Can a person, go from 70mm or 83mm to 90+mm without buying a new motor? Otherwise, it has the proprietary stigmata attached to it.
