Slip is also much more efficient.
I have seen a rise from about 3% (regen like a normal brake) to about 10% when i use slip a few miles earlier engaged than normal braking regen.

cool thanks for the info.

Another question.
Did you hook up the temp sensor to your CA?
If so how did you do it?

I just ordered a CA v3 and I noticed there temp sensor plug is 2 wire.
So do you just use the white wire with either the black ground or red power wire from the halls?

You will need to connect the white wire and pull a second tap from the black hall wire for the temp sensor.

So all my testing thus far has been with the controller programmed to 100% Speed.

I think it's time to crank it up to 11. (120% speed)

Who wants to bet on whether or not I can hit 55 MPH on 20S LiPo?

Is it just me or does the farfle swing arm looks like it could also be a controller/battery space?

Or a great place for a RC style outrunner. Heck there is probably even room for a reduction jackshaft on that thing.
Great to get the weight so close to pivot point. And such a mount would save you a lot of unsprung weight in the wheel.

There should be plenty of real estate on that swing arm so I am sure you will find use of it no matter what you decide to put there.

Awesomeuse of space spinning magnets, with the fare swing arm being steel, a lot of stuff can be fabricated on it..

Went to the Drag Strip today, all geeked out to test ride the bike with a fresh set of 6S Multistar batteries.

Unfortunately the event was rained out after we paid our entrance fees.

We decided to run a couple laps on the side track, and on 90V, I was able to get up to 53 MPH per the read-out on my CA. (60A Battery, 120A Phase, 100% Speed Max)

The other disappointing thing was that even though I came prepared with my laptop and programming cable, to bump up the current and speed settings, the cable USB stick broke in half on the ride up, so I was not able to reprogram. We will have to try this again in a couple weeks at 120% speed and higher battery & phase currents.

Also for next time, I hope to have my new CA V3 and datalogger installed, so I can include Video with motor data & speed overlays.

I would think it would easily do 55, since your using that torquey 21.5" OD tire set up.

100% is like 64mph no load speed at 20s so 120% should be 76.

Only one way to find out.

well that is interesting.
I got 42mph on 29" tires 65 bat 120 phase same 18s but 4 turn at 120%
My no load speed 64mph yours 63.
Just another instance that shows the big tires lug these hub motors.
But
I did have an at least 20lb gas engine on board, 15 more lbs of battery and the 4" wide knobby tires at 20-25psi probably have more drag than your moto tires.

the cable USB stick broke in half on the ride up,
I hate when that happens. I ditched the sticks and use only the newer modern "fingernail shaped" type of usb drives.

Hey Teslanv,

Just curious - what are the length of the spokes you have you have on your front 17" rim? Did you purchase the spokes from JRH as well?

Thanks!

Replacing the rear swing arm plastic bushings with sealed bearings. I've compiled a list of sources

This is from a thread I found about the small white bushing in the link arms
8mm x 12mm x 3.5mm sealed bearings are what you are looking for.

They sell versions with flanges and without flanges. My suggestion is to pick up a set of 10 flanged ones and 4 nonflanged ones. When you install them you put 1 flanged bearing on each side of the pivot arm and between them you install one of the nonflanged bearings. If there is a gap in the arms then you will need to install a teflon washer or modify your stock plastic bushings by cutting off the piece that inserts into the pivot arms and basically making a plastic washer. Experiment a little because these bikes are not high quality machines and the gap spacing will probably be different on every bike. That is the setup I run in my v2100 and my saber build and it works great.

Ebay item # 141281793871
Ebay item # 141321597186

First one is basic sealed bearing that you need at least 4 of. The second is the flanged bearings you need at least 8 of. I suggest getting a few extras of each one. Just paste the item # into ebay search and it will bring it up for you.

While you are at it I suggest ordering at least 2 of these...

Ebay item # 160501042330

Those are sealed bearings that go into the pivot arm directly under the seat. To install them you get a socket that is about the same size as the outer metal portion of the bearing and gently hammer them in place. To uninstall the stock ones just get a socket that fits in the hole and hammer them out. Doesn't matter if you damage the stock ones as they are crap anyway. For money reasons, I can assume, they used shielded instead of sealed bearings. All bikes should have sealed bearings only.
As for the main pivot the size is 30mm x 19mm and I just ordered a few of these to try
http://www.staton-inc.com/store/product ... 891-1.html

Since I'm building my own swing arm I can mill out the pivot to fit a larger OD bearing and have a few others in mind, since the ID is 19mm or 3/4 inch it will be easy sourcing them.

Not much to add, I just copied this build thread with a few changes of my own, using LG MH1 3200maH cells in a 20s5p configuration, 18FET Infineon Controller that I rerouted some of the wires so I can easily mount it on the frame vertical seat tube. The swing arm was built using plans and laser cut parts supplied by teslanv, I did all mill work and welding. Made a mold to cast the fiberglass shell for the battery pack.

I'm really enjoying this bike!

BruceTS,

thanks for your numbers. Yeah I also have a DMR convertible front hub. The rim I have is a Bridgestone 17" x 1.4" rim. I messed up before, ordering 190 and 191mm 12G spokes from JRH and now I have to re-order which is why I asked. I believe 195mm is just about right, but I have to recalculate. I measured a 428mm ERD on my rim. We'll see how it goes!

Teslanv, does your chain clear with the controller mounted like that? Would a triple chain ring fit if you got it perfectly spaced?

yes all my gear selection is useable, and yes it takes some playing around to make everything clear and function properly, no room for error.
