On my bike, it's totally silent except for a very narrow speed range where the motor cogging hits a resonance in the spokes or frame or something. Even with a perfect sine wave, there is still some torque ripple that can generate a little noise. The resonant speed is at the low end of the speed range and I have to listen carefully to even hear it.

What motor do you use? I need absolute silence and reliability

High pitch is strange. Is that coming from the motor or controller? I would assume from the motor, as any audible noise from the controller itself would not be good. What motor are you using?

With a square wave, it's normally a wheeze and vibration transferred to the frame (from the motor).

How silent is this controller? On my phaserunner it's supposed to be silent but it does a high pitch noise on acceleration with some motors.

Thanks

My PV controller and edge 1500w motor are absolutely silent. From hearing my friends ride my bike, I would say my chain/freewheel and knobby tires are louder on the road. Coming from slick tires previously, knobby mountain bike tires actually make a lot of noise on pavement. For absolute silence, get slick tires and a quiet freewheel/cassette.

It's an motor from an unknown company (Ncyclebike). If it's a direct drive I'd assume it wouldn't make a difference...

The high pitch noise is annoying. I think it comes from the motor

With direct drives, the only two things I can think of as noise sources are the bearings and/or freewheel.
Is the noise present also when you just pushing the wheel with your hand (controller is off)?

Absolutely not. It only makes noise during acceleration

I once had a motor that behaved something like that. Turned out to be uneven spoke tension was causing the magnets to rub against the stator.

Definitely not bearing issue. The noise is not that strong but still present. I need to record it to show

Hi Powervelocity

Do you confirm that your 18F are currently dual sensored / sensorless ?

If yes I need 3 of them right now...

Would be interested as well. Also to know how how to compares to a Kelly of sabvoton which seem to be more established products

Established is a relative term and subject to interpretation. If you ask how many derivatives of Infineon controllers have been sold vs. Kelly or Sabvoton, I would say Infineons are more established. So, it depends on who you ask.

Ok I said established but I really mean reliable. I've got a pile of infineon and Chinese controllers.. all junk. Some died from rain, other randomly... And thing is I don't know how to fix them.

Do these controllers have any warranty? What happen if it fails?

And does it run sensorless as well?

What sort of shunt resistance on the 18F or the 24F controllers? What’s the hottest you would recommend these controllers run?

Yes, I have this quantity available for dual versions.
Thanks for the info but I see no 18F in your shop, though you mentionned its existence here in ES. How do I order ?

Shunt resistance on 18F is in the range of 1-1.3mO and 0.7-0.9mO for 24F. All controllers are labeled with the exact value of the shunt resistance they come with. The BT module is configured to shut down controller at around 95C. Running the throttle via the BT will enable dynamic power rollback to control overheating. This feature will be pushed via a software update pretty soon.

Yes, I will honor repair or exchange within a month if operated at rated voltage and amperage.
Dual mode is available.
Ahah wow. 1 month warranty.. even Kelly has 1 year!

Not very confident it will work properly over time I suppose.

Ideally a lifetime warranty would be what give confidence it's a reliable product

Ah ok much better then. Apologies..

Why not provide longer warranties so that people have confidence in buying your products?

I'll buy meanwell anytime Vs other power supplied because of the 5 years warranties. That really show how reliable it is. They wouldn't offer such a long warranty if they have yearly people contacting them about that

It's not about the quality of the product but what people are doing with it.
The controller is highly configurable and that's a benefit for people that like to push the limits (like most people here at ES). Some people take it over the limit. I could lock it down and give 10 years of warranty for it. But then, would you be happy?
