Thanks drdrs for the review!

I’m in Canada and had found that hilleater.ca was distributing them, found here:

https://hilleater.ca/bms/

and here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Energus-Tiny-B ... ctupt=true

I saw your post about the Arduino display coding, thank you very much for creating and posting saves a lot of time and oh yeah sometimes frustration trying to get a code to work properly.
It is really nice to be able to see all cell voltages at a glance. I do have a spare Arduino sitting on the shelf!

Is the BMS still balancing at 10mv? It doesn’t really matter to me as I charge to 4.10v, just curious.

Thanks for the tip on the B- soldering.

Currently I have the BMS set to start balancing at 3.5V, finish charging at 4.1V, and tolerate no more than 15mV max-min difference between cells. I charge with a meanwell hlg-320H-54a CC-CV tuned so that the current drops to the 1A BMS cutoff at the same time the cells are reaching 4.1V.

When the charging is finished, I see 10mV max-min differences, better than the 15mV setting.

Looks very nice ....is it only Tiny BMS compatible ....or can it work with other Smart BMS units? Also ....how about a link of where it can be purchased?

Has anyone else found a small real time display to work with the Tiny BMS? I emailed the seller/distributor from their web page and never got a response. What is support like on these currently?

I'm not aware of a display besides the LED SOC one by Energus. I decided to build my own that talks to an ASI controller and the Tiny BMS using an Arduino Mega and a TFT display shield by Adafruit. I'll get around to posting it in the next few weeks.

Would love to see that ... that post from DaDo.Bzz is interesting but I have never received a response regarding where to get that display.

Hehe, it's called "maybe support." Those guys don't seem to be too interested in feedback and improvement of their product. They'd rather "sell and forget." How long ago did you contact them ?

I used their messaging on the web page ...so no record of exactly when ...but I believe it was about a month ago. Certainly seems like support is no support at this time.

Has anyone installed two of these to manage higher pack voltages? Circuit repeatedly said that no more than 48V is necessary, which is fine for electric bikes but I'm building a 28S nissan leaf powered motorcycle and am having a hell of a time finding a bms system for less than $1000. I would be more than happy to spend ~$300 on two tiny bms systems to each control half the pack, but I'm not sure if this is actually possible.

Since the Tiny BMS communications are so well documented, I've put together a read-only monitor for the Tiny BMS that I use during charging. You'll need a python 3 install with the Bokeh and PyModbus libraries.

Anyone put together a cell phone app for this BMS showing just the cell bars, before I go down the rabbit hole of bluetooth protocols. So I send the bms the code below, and it replies with the individual cells which then magically converts into bar graphs.... Sound like a few days of my life trying to figure it out.

I would gladly pay a good amount for that app if someone managed to pull that out.
The current app (Ebike Analyzer) that communicates well with the BMS would be a good start point, but the designer has no plans to improve it soon, according to his reply to an email I sent him about 5 months ago. :(

It shows only the total voltage of the pack, not the individual cell voltages.

Well, at least it shows your speed, Amps, Voltage, Wattage, Temperature, and it has a Batt. Gauge. And a nice display.
But I think the manufacturers of the BMS should buy the app from the guy and then improve it and add features.

yea those features would be nice "on top" but cell voltages to CHECK MY CELLS condition is priority no1 (for me) :P

i think i saw a guy on lmx forum who is/was smart enough to show cells over can communication...will try to find...

Anyone know if the BMS requires a special type of Bluetooth module (aka from Energus 25.00 € +tax +vat probably $50CAD by the time its at my door) or would a HC-05 Bluetooth module ( $6 CAD) work for communication?
HC-05 is 4 wire 5V, GRND, TX, RX.

Thanks,

Jeremy

It uses Cycle Analyst protocol (v3 I believe) - there is no reporting on individual cells, only on the entire pack as the other person stated. E-Bike analyzer is really a vehicle application, not a BMS application - when I'm driving around in an EV I couldn't care less what my individual cells are doing, all I care to know if I have enough juice to get to where I'm going :)

I was able to use a generic USB to Serial (5v TTL) cable with TinyBMS, so generic Bluetooth modules should work too.

TinyBMS can't manage more than 16s and there is no way to chain them together. For 28s you can use Batrium or Zeva. Oh, and it absolutely sucks when it comes to balancing of larger cells such as 66Ah Leaf.

its not about watching cells while riding. its watching cells for maintenance...without checking cells you ride until "something" goes wrong and bms cuts off your ride.
ill understand this app is not made for a or this bms. thought that before.

this pic is from tiny bms and external display showing cells over BT. CA v3 protocol or not...its possible. :thumb:
