Just repeating what I sorted in case anyone else is o the same learning curve.

The two controller options are two different motor options.
Sam D's requires a different motor than shown so far, and the Hobby King sensorless uses the VESC.
Anyone have a sensored motor recommend?

More and more I'm thinking that John is spot on the VESC IS the better solution. Dang it. I wanted a less expensive solution, but still it is a decent price for a great design. Especially of I look at the various Kickstarter versions that have come and gone.

Sorry, grandpa is all new to this...

Really, I don't think the Vesc blows the cost out of the park. I found this excellent deal on a Vesc and perfect motor combo for $188 USD
http://www.michobby.com/product/hot-com ... kateboard/

If you used a 10Ahr Multistar LiPo, you are looking at a pretty economical combo.
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/multistar-h ... -pack.html

Drive $100
Vesc Motor combo $188
Multistar 6S 10ahr LiPo $90
Misc and freight $50
$428 Total

Compare that to an Add-E at around $1,250 USD which only has 130 Whr battery and being too noisy as one of its biggest complaints.

Agreed, and some of the VESC setups are indeed very well made. I'm in for the VESC-X
$149.46 (price drop!)

(They would discount a group buy.)

Do you think they ( enertion ) would make for us , a direct plug/plug adapter , to plug in a standard 3 wire e-bike throttle ?

Meaning a plug on the board for plugging in a 3 wire e-bike throttle . or an adapter connector that mates 3 wire e-bike throttle plug or wires , to connector that plugs into one of the plugs I see on the board.

I think I can make one myself. I don't know the pin spacing but it may be just a matter of changing the pinout on the throttle.

Did a bit of research into the plug. You will need a JST PH connector with a 2mm pitch (spacing between the pins)

Easiest solution is to just buy some 3 wire pigtails. I found this one locally. https://littlebirdelectronics.com.au/pr ... e-assembly

It would be nice to have a true plug and play solution with an adapter that takes up the full 7 pins on the vesc and adapts it to a standard ebike throttle connector. Might look at making a few of these up.

I am going to be placing an order with H.K. soon anyway,

No sense in ordering a $ 1.50 cent part and having to pay $ 8-$ 12 in shipping costs.

Unless it is not available on H.K. ( I do not have a VESC personally so I am still unsure which of the connectors on the Board of the VESC are the connector/pins for where a throttle connector/wires would go )
It looks like the pins/connectors available on the VESC male pins with female connector ?

I am sure Other people would like to get the correct pins/connectors through H.K. as well since many people
order Wire/Solder/Etc through H.K.

Sadly none of those plugs would fit the Vesc. It needs to be a 2mm pin spacing

I made one today for my new Vesc X. I will post some pictures later. Also working on a little video on how to program the Vesc to use an ebike throttle.

Hardware wise, this is all it takes. Very straightforward to do.

Setting up the Vesc to make it all work isn't too hard either but I will but together a short video highlight a few tricks you need to do to make it work perfectly.

HK is one of the poorest places to get misc parts IMO. Places like Spakfun, Mouser and others are electronics professional suppliers. Much higher quality and often products that are direct and better fit. All JST connectors are not equal as has been alluded to. Some ship For Class mail and often un $5. I can always find a couple of parts to add to my repair box to make an order worthwhile. But that's just me...

Looks like I will have to forget abut H.K. for this now as Kepler has just said none of the ones on H.K. would work.

I do need some wire and other small items, and I have found that H.K, has the best prices for 10/12 etc. Awg wire, and it is more flexible than the wire sold at local Hardware store, and 30% percent of the price as well, that is a huge savings over local hardware store 10/12 awg wire pricing. the shipping from H.K. is less than just the savings for 2 meters of wire.
I also find heatshrink , and bullet connectors, and XT 90 Connectors much better priced at H.K.

So thanks for the link, looks like I will have to order from them since H.K. does not stock them.

Yep, those will do the trick. If you grab some 3 pin Male JST SM pigtails also, you can then just solder the two together to create your ebike throttle adapter cable.

One of the other features I like about the vesc is that you can plug it into your laptop after the ride and see how many Whrs you used.

The screen grab was from my morning ride. 83km and used about 60% of the pack. Of course I pedaled plenty but it was an easy ride using a bit of assist when needed.

How about using these batteries for those of us in the U.S.?

a vendor on E-sphere is selling these for $5 each plus shipping. He has a lot.

Would they work?

Sure, no problems. You would need a minimum of 10 though setup 2S5P. That would give you 24V and 20A

Hi everyone,

Just took my first ride after installing Kepler's bracket. So happy with the results. A few little hiccups along the way but nothing too difficult, running 6s lipo and two button throttle setup as described earlier in the thread. Bike measures 10.13kg with battery, will easy get down to about 9.5kg. It's a Cannondale lefty mountain bike and tonight I'm just using furious Fred mountain bike tyres and there was no issue with hookup. Will measure speeds tomorrow but felt about 45kmh on the flat. Thanks for everything Kepler, It's awesome.

oops, I don't understand. Based on voltage and amp hours I would think that I would need 6s 3p. As the packs are already 3s, then I would need 6 packs to yield 22.2V 12.75Ah. As you are the learned one and I am the beginner, is the reason for the 5p instead of 3p to supply the needed current?

Neil's batteries are max discharge of 4 amperes (0.9C). Multistar constant discharge is 10C (2200 watts) with 10 second max of 20C (4400w).

The advantage of Neil's batteries is by my calculation 1/3 price 1.5x weight or by yours, half price, 2.3x weight. The energy density is close (within 6%).

Thank you for reexamining my question. How do I order and when might the bits arrive?

That's great news Ryan. Cannondale lefty is such a cool bike. I haven't tired the drive with those tires before but it something I have been wanting to do. I have already taken my BBS02 mid drive off my Specialized Camber with a view to one of my friction drives to it. The rear tire was the only thing holding me back so thanks for heads up on that one.

Please post some pictures and a list of what gear you ended up going with. I believe the Cannondale lefty uses BB30 bottom bracket. It would be nice to see how you got around that.
