[AUSTRALIA] Sur-Ron Light Bee / Fire Fly - Mid drive ebike

Hey guys,
Allex is organising a group buy of these bikes for Europe, I'm looking to do a group buy for the Aussie market.
You can read his EU thread here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewt ... 31&t=90196

But the bottom line is these are a new, pretty exciting bike out of China from a company call Sur-Ron.
The bike is called Light Bee, which appears to be a literal and incorrect translation of Fire Fly. LOL
I'll translate it again. Line up kids, and feel the sting of the BURNING WASP

This isn't an e-bicycle, it's an e-moto. It has foot pegs not pedals so you can't ride this around the street and pretend it's a bicycle :P
But you could probably ride it all the other places around local bush land that you can't get away with riding a noisier motorbike ;)
Power is 3kw continuous but seems to burst a fair bit more than that

I'm still finalising details, and production only kicks off today, but I'll update as more info comes to hand.

edit:
It's looking like $4500 AUD delivered to Sydney. Free local pickup or national shipping at cost.
This is for the upgraded 60v version with better motor and fast 10a charger. Having tested the demos now it'd be a silly move to get anything less IMO.

No takers so far ?? I would have thought there'd be alot of interest in these.
I guess the no pedals thing is a deal breaker ?

Are you in a position to put down a chunk of a deposit ? It's going to be a month before they ship out and then another 6 weeks on the water before they arrive so it'll be pretty much the end of the year by the time they land, but I'll need to fix up the actual product cost before they leave China

Yeah I haven't gone into depth with that yet! I need enough people on board to make this work at all before ticking all those boxes. I'm hoping it's just an 'approval to import' given it's not for road use etc.
The other option I'm looking at is importing them as kits that can be assembled locally...

There's an application for a non road use vehicle. Have a read of the website.

Yep I've just been reading it, thanks! Seems it's in the same category for non-road use or in pieces so either way it's the same process.
It should be just a formality and the fees fairly trivial when split across a few bikes.

I'm very interested. How much are we looking at for deposit and what is the timing on the final payment?

I'd need most of the money up front for the actual purchase of the bikes and to get them on the ship. Then in 4-6 weeks the balance would be payable for the local fees, taxes and then onwards shipping from the depot.
So realistically it'd be around 3k up front.

Working on how to get this past the minister for finance and warfare...

Going prospecting the week after next. Maybe find enough to fund the project.

As its looking like I wont be in my house before Christmas, I dont have much 'play money' until atleast christmas. I'll just have to play the waiting game otherwise I'd be all over it!

Yes. chalk me up as interested. I suppose money would be required when we reach a critical mass of interest? Can you let us know
In the mean time, will be taking a closer look at their specs

I just downloaded the APP for iPhone and had a look at it. Most of it is in Chinese (I'm not bi-lingual)

It appears that these things are GPS enabled. They track their journeys and last recorded point before power off. All this information is uploaded through the App for all to see. EG: There's a fleet of them buzzing around China that can be viewed through the App.
Also looks to have a Geo-fencing function as well as issuing remote commands and log viewing. Um. Yeah......

I can't help but wonder if a DJI engineer was involved in this one.

"OK Google. Bring Johnny home for dinner... Now"

Yes one of these would be boss, now how do i get the money. Do you think they are going to be a better version of this somewhere down the line, because with 80-100 volts and a slightly wider frame for moto tyres this could replace dirt bikes?

From Sur-Ron regarding the app

For the APP, it’s like this. For light bee, which are for Chinese market, can insert a SIM card into the bike. And the mobile phone APP can locating the bike through the SIM card. If the bike was stolen, the user can use the APP to locate the bike’s position, and find the bike back. Also, the APP can show the riding route, riders can know which places they ever reached.

But you need to check whether your local mobile network company offer this kind of service. And this moment, all the samples for foreign customers, do not have the APP, if they check with the local mobile network company can do this, then, no problem, we will add the APP for future orders.

Thanks Adam.

If you can keep us abreast of communications from the factory

The comms has slowed dramatically since sending money, but this is also coincidental with a 8 day holiday for new year and a bunch of trade shows.
I suspect the production images we saw was a small batch being assembled for promo and these trade shows.
I think that the Us will have the first bike outside of China hopefully any day now.
I have been told that the order is scheduled in the factory awaiting the 60v batteries and will be shipped out ASAP.
The original est shipping date was 15-20, but then changed to 20-25 October so we will see what happens next week...
