Denzel has mated the gearbox engine to their "electric cafe racer" :

Looks pretty decent with a heavy bike like that. A bit slow, a bit loud....But the hill climbing on such low power is a big plus :lowbatt:

And i'm sure if you are cruising on a flat in 4th gear you can go 40mph pretty easily :bolt:

You think a Motoped would be good for this setup? the only thing i'm not sure about is the jackshaft? Seems like you would be forced to use it but i'm not sure how that will effect the transmission/drivability of the bike

there is a sikk trail bike on ebay for $1800 right now. The frame looks really nice imo but its a gas bike complete hate to ruin a good thing

The Groms and clones all just seem too small for me, even the pit bike frames are too small. Id rather have a full size toy bike then try and enjoy riding this thing all cramped up since im tall (6'3") not sure maybe the frames could be modified

motoped is a tall bike stock due to large diameter wheels, high off-road ground clearance, and long travel suspension.. that's why I recommend it for off-road or tall ppl.. (I lowered my motoped bikes with different wheel sizes and suspension for street etc).. as a frame kit for ~$1k, you then choose the parts to suit your needs and budget with common mtb, bmx and pit bike parts.. motoped jack shaft transmission has been tested on here and elsewhere to 20hp+ no problems there.. sikk trail bike is not great quality but its worth a look, test ride.. I also provided link to motoped drawings for frame dimensions if you decide to frame build.. orion fx1 is also similar to sikk trail bike, affordable but not great quality..

Motoped

I see frame for $399 swing for $299 seat $89 upper seat stay $89 swingarm joiner pivots $129, then you still need suspension and wheels and everything else, they seem to be sold out of kits so you have to piece it together

those things get expensive fast and I really don't want a pedal bike, so the foot peg kit is $279.99 extra! seems like a waste of bolt on parts

here is the frame kit im referring to :
https://www.motocruzin.com/product/moto ... -frame-kit

I spent around $2 - 3K building mine..
contact motocruzin, maybe they can take out the parts you don't want, need from the kit..

I was thinking of reusing a sprocket I had on my Apollo dirt bike build for this drive but looking at the Eastgem videos again, they seem to use the tiny stock gas sprockets of the OEM bikes and my sprocket is 60t I think
Image

You can tell the drive does not max out that fast as it is and you need 72v to get it to RPM so I will likely try to get a small gas sprocket

That's the drive, I like his sized bike way more than mine! they show it going slow since it is kind of slow for 72v system and they do not show any sort of shifting. Even on the road videos they don't show much shifting. Its not that easy to shift smoothly

torque monster! great bike to putt around on a nice day and go anywhere your regular bike cannot

Everybody needs to watch what they buy from this guy they'll sell it to you sure and you'll get it you may not get all of it I bought a wiring harness from him and he promised me for months that he would send me section 5 of the harness and he waited until the PayPal time ran out to where I can file a claim and now he won't even answer emails or anything he has some great products but his customer service sucks

Just that one bike using the gearbox? It doesnt look like he shifted once coming out of any corners. Kind of like the one i have you just select the top speed/torque you want and keep it there...not sure if its worth 40 extra pounds of weight. Maybe on a straighter course it would be more beneficial

or hills.. all the bikes were electric, but only one with the gearbox drive, afaict.. looks like university amateur racing for product development.. imo, with road racing, direct drive would have the advantage bc shifting takes time even if its just fractions of seconds it all adds up.. but for off-road many riders still want clutch and gears due to the terrain and trail obstacles.. I would love to see this new gearbox engine mounted to some dirt bikes next;)..

one advantage of the gearbox engine is that it easily mounts to wide range of motorcycles without the need for frame modification or motor mount fabrication.. and this trend will likely continue considering efforts underway in some countries to electrify their motorcycle markets and domestic fleet.. especially considering the role of motorcycles as a primary transportation, cargo, etc in many countries as opposed to primarily recreational use in the us..

I agree with all of this

I'm glad I waited to convert a full size street legal enduro since this 4 spd gearbox is childs play for the speeds id like to maintain

None of those bikes look as fast as even the slower mini supermotos raced locally, even though that kart track was built for the low end power of electric. Can anyone figure out if they were limited in wattage?
I was certainly expecting more from 12kw.
