Buying used Chevrolet Volt/ Opel Ampera

Post by davidsvoboda » Jul 18 2016 3:16pm

Hi, I would like to purchase 2011 Chevrolet Volt/ Opel Ampera.
I am worried about the batteries on a car with 140 000 km. Any experineces, should the battery be fine? Is it worth buying used Volt at this mileage? Any clue on how much are the replacement batteries for Volt/Ampera? I would be buying this in Germany..

GM still has the capacity to build battery packs for the old, first-gen model. This is because the company is legally required to be able to provide replacement packs for warrantied vehicles (for up to 10 years), and the second-gen packs don't fit into the first-gen vehicles. So far, GM says, a grand total of zero Volt packs have been replaced because of "general capacity degradation"

" 140 000 km"? Urban stop-and-go or "German" highway speeds? (Same owner... owners?) Any "long-distance" trips? (Recharges how. AC etc.)

Hard to pedal?

Hehe Sorry. Just kidding around. Truth is though, w/bettery-electric traction... ya pedal for warmth and exercise, but also to shave peak electric outputs at start ups and up hills, etc. (To extend trips distances per charges, but also extend recycle life ie #recharges ie get to lowest cost per mile. Kilometer, etc.) Also, again urban bike/trike design MUCH easier and "cheaper" generally to travel with versus "full size" "car-style".

Any thoughts re going trailer-style? (Could be self-propelled, etc. For that extra "stuff".)
