underside 2 second try.jpgSo I got a request for a matte black on black board..
10 km range 25 -30 kph max speed.. single plug charging..stealthy look, and low weight... suitable for a 155 lb user..
No sweat! $950 was agreed as a fair price..
I tried something a bit different here..
100 amp 4s ESC, 8 ah 25c batts, 83mm abec clones and a 17/42 gearing using sdpi htd5 15mm belts..standard welded motormounts, 42 inch board..10 inch trucks, NTM 5060 270 kv motor..
locktite up the wazoo.. and cell alarm when any cell goes under 3.1v.. xt60 on/off plug foolproof automatic 4s balance/charger. Electronics cover is made out of bent 20 caliber galvanized steel. All the parts are screwed on to the board, the cover is just for protection...

The board is cool, and obviously not fast but it did come out extremely stealthy... it is quite hard to notice anyhting under the board unless you are looking for it, more an effect of the matte black than any superthin compnents..The only dead give away is of course the Buck Rogers starblaster in my hand. To avoid this the cover is designed to hold th new Wiimote controller as soon as Austin has the pcbs in.... (better not be bigger than the current one or I'll be in hot water)
I suck at photograpghy, so the colors and shines are all off cause when I took pictures either with flash or something cause when I just took pics of the board nothing came out...
Cant see anything with this pics.jpg
just a black surface with wheels
Took some this morning in bright sunlight that came out better...So on to the skateboard porn...

The look is superstealthy much more than any of my others.. the batteries are not thinner but matte black really downplays everything

The single plug charging is done using this simple balance/charger that charges and balances thorough the balance leads..

Just connect the power supply to the balance charger.. leave a set of balance leads out.. and there you go a simple one plug balance charger... Takes a while to charge though, about 3-3.5 hours for my 8000 ah 4s...

The board came out cool.. It currently has only 25 kms on it.. but it runs smoothly and nothing gets overly hot.. Definitly a fun cruising board. It will be complete once the wiimote has been installed and we can do without the Blaster... Will probably get another 75 kms within the next week just to see that everything is sturdy and trouble free.

Of course this proyect could not be complete without some irresponsible parenting... so here is my5 year old daughter giving it a test sit...

Looks nice! Why did you go with steel instead of aluminum?

Lucky you getting to spend others money and play with it, what could be better? :) Sharing the results for science ofc! So thanks ;)

The weight difference is negligible for such a thin and small part.. like 25 grams or something like that.. and steel is so much easier to paint, bend, and whenever i screw up ...weld. That said I should be receiving my 3d printer Flashforge creator pro..(Thanks for the tip Torque) next week...so this might be my last steel enclosure.

This is really cool board.

you really seem to be mastering the art of simplistic functional Eboard creation...

what is the verdict on 4s vs 6s.... can you 'feel' the difference

That charger is awesome... i love the simplicity of one simple plug.... you might consider using a panel mounted PS2 port so you don't have the JST hanging out

Love it! I may try an onboard 6s charger soon. You're builds are definitely inspiring me.

Awesome build beto. We have almost half of the batch done and ready to go. I'll go ahead and send you a PM and get that shipped out to you ASAP. I like those enclosures are they easy to come off?

Got your PM tanks man.
Confirming my order for 2 wiiceivers+ 2 nykos.. Order up everyone or I'm gonna grab them all LOL
The enclosures dont come off easily.. Not that they cannot be taken off.. but not something you want to do on a daily basis. This of course could be changed if one wanted by using butterfly screws (that is what they are called here) or welding a hinge to one of the sides... Im sure you are asking so you can swap batts...

The charger option is still going strong...no problems so far.. foolproof and charges/balances perfect every time...

simplistic functional Eboard creation.. wow nice description :D ... yes in my experience making machinesn the less parts that can break down the better the machine works long term. Not a good argument for winning F1 races, but and awesome strategy for stuff you want to work every time.. So single motor, single mount, single cables, single box, single plug, simple on off xt60.. simple automatic voltage alarm..

4s is OK for a baseline board.. 25kph max.. for someone who weighs around 150 lbs and if you like me weigh 200 lbs then it shouls be set for 20 kph max... I dont think this board will handle anything much steeper or much longer than a highway overpass with me on it...should be OK for a 150 lb person though..

The benefits are the tiny esc footprint, and the availability of thin 4s batteries.. also cost as the esc price at $37 bucks, ntm 5060 motor for $42, and a 5000 mah 4s at $24.00, and the charger/powersuply is under $15, with a quanum remote under $20... at it wont break the bank and the lowish speed making it a great youth/adult commuter board.. where you dont want your kid/or the user killing himself..

As a personal note the battery pack is the cheapest and not the one I used as it is quite thick..
So yes .. you FEEL the difference, but depending on the use you might not miss it..

Another awesome board beto. Can you post a link of where you buy ABEC clones? I can't seem to find them.

course...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151149290150
usually get black.. got pink once for adrianas board and they were ok as well..
The trucks in case you wondered..

those are an exact clone of the abec11 flywheels? has anyone tried fitting them with an alien drive kit?

No idea how exact.. i seem to remember reading somewhere that they have thick and thin interior supports.. I seem to remember that someone (think it might have been Torque) did a write up on this at some point.. my pink ones have thinner supports as compared to my black ones.

No idea if they fit aliens.. Id say pm beetbocks...

Supposedly, they're all thick core now. Thin core are the older batches which are harder to find. The thin core is almost an exact copy of the ABEC 11's and they will fit each other. The thick core won't fit the original ABEC's. I know beetbocks fits the original abec's so the thin core should work. Not sure, if he's made one for the thick core clones though.. Probably should ask him.

Have had several PM requests so here are the other specs..

Disclaimer on the quanum... purchased 6 that have worked/bound flawlessly.. Torque and a couple others have not had such luck...
This board only has 40 kms (as of today)... will have 100 before this weeks end... however you might want to wait until then and see if anything burns up...

50 kms and going strong. ..
Although the low speed makes for a totally different ride than the Velociraptor or destryer provide. ..27 kph max speed..went up and down the overpass 4 times in a row and nothing blew up or exploded. .
Loosened the trucks as far as they would go without wobbling to get a carvier ride.. see if that spices up the ride any...

Hi beto, how warm are the ESC and motor, do they reach "human pain threshold" ? (~ 60°C) -
(just wondering if that gargoyle seeks for higher speeds with a lower reduction ratio)
Cheers

70 kms so far nothing blown up or burned.. getting a solid 9.5-9.8 kms per battery charge..
actually did overpasses today for a whole 10 minutes.. just back and forth.. testing the esc/motor.. I think im uncounciously trying to burn this esc...

They are both barely warm (actually the esc is cool).. can keep my hand confortably on the motor for any amount of time..
Remember this board is made to order, so unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) it doesnt really matter if I like it.. ...
It isnt even that i dont like it.. it is just not suited to me, or my morning rides, I wake up at 6am, wait for the bus with my kid, at 6:45 put on my armour drive 5 minutes to the oceanfront bike lande and fly for an hour, gets me ready for my day.. anyone thinking of a 25kph board for street comutting and for non-playing aplications would love the simplicity and economy of the setup..

Charging question - Don't you need the Batteries power cable too to charge?
Here it looks like you only use the balance plug

yup super easy charging alternative but only works for 4s or 8s or 12s (using 4s in series and disconnecting for charging, and reconnecting them as 8s/12s for riding) use this..

https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__36906__Hobbyking_174_DC_4S_Balance_Charger_Cell_Checker_30w_2s_4s_US_Warehouse_.html

you will be able to charge through the balance plugs.
