OK I have my EBikes but have trouble getting around the neighborhood. I will not sit on my arse on one of those mobility things. I'd like to run down the block or 5 with the dog and to grab a tool or BS with a neighbor. On the days I have trouble walking or have reached my limit I'm certain a E Scoot will serve my needs. BUT as always there's a glitch. $$$ I can't really afford to go out and buy a ready made E Scoot. But I could build in stages, gather and scrounge bits and pieces until I had a working platform. But where to begin? Designs? From scratch? Looking at the boards it seems like a laminated wood platform and the pieces and parts are out there. I'm searching and reading and would appreciate any links directions ideas or opinions. Help dad build his scooter. It could be good for some laughs...

Could a power E skateboard have a hand grip? Dumb dad? Very dumb? I hate this old shit and am amazed by what you all are putting together. I'm having fun reading your exploits. I wish there were younguns around here as industrious!

Here's couple pics of my standup scooters.

I prefer converting kickbikes or sometimes called "mushing scooters". Very clean, simple and lightweight once you dump the chain driveline stuff.

Love em for what you describe.

Not a bad idea, but I've never seen one in these parts...

Totally cool!

Ok what is it?!!!???

OK, on track, a poorly executed version but perhap a solid platform.

Better idea for motor? Smallest hub drive? Friction?

Thanks, thats the direction, now to find the bike. I'm as excited as I was about the BBS01. I like the clean setup with no chain or friction. IF the smallest wheel vesrsions will fit a hub motor I think I might prefer that for portability, but perhaps the larger whell would be a vastly more stable and comfortable ride.

Here's a link showing Diggler and Sidewalker adult kick scooters.

http://www.sidewalkerusa.com/aboutus.html

The City or Willy both ride good and not a huge difference between the two. They turn up on Craig's list. I like Sidewalker because they use a 100mm rear dropout width which works for front hub motors. Diggler has a good reputation for 20" wheels but I've never used one of those.

The only downside is if the front wheel drops into a large pothole at speed. There's not much ground clearance so things can come to abrupt stop.

btw, Sidewalker "Atom" is new and looks kinda promising for maximum portability and folding handle. I'd be tempted to try a 350W Conhismotor (Goldenmotor) front mini hub in 12" cast wheel but only if the rear dropout is 100mm. That information doesn't appear to be on the website so an email might answer that question?

Standups are great fun. We still use 'em all around the neighborhood for errands and gawking. Kinda dorky to some I suppose? As if I care what folks think about what something "looks" like, hahaha....

I was looking at these not long ago for possible RC motor drive. Has disc brakes and front suspension. Drive through sprocket mounted where rear disc brake mounts.
edit:
Looks like the link I provided is broken.... here is a pic of the kick scooter I was referring to.

I'm drawn to the atom, and thought maybe one of the smallest geared front hub motors would be a good option. I think it may come down tio what I find available in bikes. I like the smaller profiles best, but the right city or willy would be fine. Looks? Heck, I wear nothing but birkenstocks and beanies. Dress up means black button suspenders and polished Birks. I are a dork by design and function. starting the email search for atom info first. I'll be picking your brain for more. Sadly I have no playmates here.

I picked up a BladeZ XTR Comp 450W Scooter off Craigslist for $60. It just needed a battery. Scavenged a bunch of low "C"-rate cells from some dead laptops, and built a "new" 6S-30Ah battery for it. I swear it has a 20-mile range now.
It's plenty powerful enough for adults, too.
I'm on constant patrol for just such a find. But most are popping up 120 miles away so far. A couple of trips to Mpls only to find the craigslist seller had sold and item out from under me after the long drive has me a little spooky about doing the drive again. $30 in gas for a dead end is a pisser. I think I'd be happy with exactly that, but now that I've found the 12" pneumatic tires models I think at 200lbs it would be a better ride. But the search is on. Your find is quite the score IMO. Thanks!

BTW have you heard of "Adopt a Grandfather" programs?

This sweet ride has 100mm dropouts. But probably unobtanium.

Hang in there, the right thing will eventually turn up. I like that last one you posted, any USA sources?

Small wheeled kick escooters are cool, very small and often dirt cheap found used with bad batteries. I've run gamut of everything from Xootr's to GoPed to kick-bikes. The latter is the closest to a bike-like experience but an entirely custom creation.

You really can't go wrong with any style but for miles and miles of riding I tend to prefer the kick-bike conversions.

Thanks Ykick, that's exactly what I'll do.

Looks like I scored two, maybe three Schwinn scoots for the project. Just have to find a way to get them here. All a donation from a Vespa pal. It means the neighbor kid and I have a winter project. IF my brother will make the 46 mile drive to pick them up. There will be two happy neighbor kids too! Very cool. All good things come in time!

And the adventure begins...

The top one says 350w, the bottom one is the image of my 350w. The middle one looks identical to the bottom except the wheels look like the 500w, so it may be as much as 500w. Do you have a plan?

First thing I ever did to one of those was put a piece of tubing across the front for my feet. Meat hooks, eh? 16-18" would be good.

The Currie website doesn't offer the 36v controller anymore, but other sites do. http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/currie-36-volt-5-pin-controller-throttle.html I haven't gone through with this experiment on a 350w yet, I don't know how well the motor will hold up.

Those long goosenecks fold down, you can loose the bolt revealed and tap it down same as a regular gooseneck. In case you have plans for swapping out.

Yes one is a 500. Ant leads on manuals? All I found are on weird download sites that were virus holes in my Windoze days. I'm not torrent smart so, I'm looking...

For now they're at my brothers place and I won't see them until he comes down for the family drama at Xmas.

I do have the models and serial numbers. First off I need to learn about battery options.

Model S500-CD (Green) sn: 08D022636
Model S350 (Blue) sn; 03M015601
Model S350 (Purple) sn: ACA05E052355 (poor condition)

The good news is they're simple, you don't really need a manual anyway. So you know what that means the bad news is, right? Currie has absolutely withdrawn all those great downloads they used to have available. But the owners manual actually has some good info: http://www.currietech.com/dealers/wiki/images/3/36/Owner%27s_Manual_-_DD_scooter.pdf

Poor condition? That's the exciting one to the tinkerer, right? Just rip into it as you please! One of my plottings for a different scoot but you could do it on a Currie: Put an extension (Like a swingarm) on the back to put on a bigger wheel. The front gets a fork and bigger wheel. You can have a look like, oh. . . .

The 500w should get that 1000w controller I posted, the Razor is said to work just fine on the Curries and you could hope to put this 650watter on the 350w scooter. http://www.houseofscooters.com/raelkitformx.html

Something for sale here in California, might be novel if I understand it. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/bik/4753752676.html

Dauntless you're a pal! Thanks! Yup I've ben head trip pin on a number of ideas. First order is to learn what I need for a Lipo battery set up and what gear I need for changing. I wouldn't mind using my existing batteries either. See in my sig. But thanks for the help. The comment on poor condition was my brothers's based on the collapsed seat and basket. He hasn't done anything more than pick them up for me, list the models and serials, and comment. I really want a quick standup for myself and a tame good runner for the neighbor kids.
