Xiaomi Power Bank as E-Skate Battery Pack?

Hi,

Iv'e noticed you can get this 10,000mAh (5V) power banks pretty cheap:

(Will be 11.99$ in a promotion next week).

Why not get a bunch of them (They also weigh only ~200gr a pack) and use them to power our boards?

Doubtful this will work well...

It only powers items at a couple amps - so trying to utilize in series (to move from 5v which is likely regulated) to something we'd want like 24v+ would be a lot of work. Better to get some bare 18650 cells that can sustain high Amp output. Then do what others have done and make your own packs.

I've measured a pretty consistent (peak) draw of around 65A on 8s (33v). Just to compare.

Playing with it is one thing, but i really don't think these would work well, or you'd save $ just buying the bare 18650 cells and making your own pack.

As with what sl33py said, seems like a good idea until you look at the battery's specs on max discharge amperage. You will want to keep that in mind.
 
I think it's even cheaper than 4 bare LG 18650 (which iv'e seen for 4$+ ech).

Anyway, in the meantime i have found another interesting battery pack to possibly replace my triple 12v 7AH SLAs (always looking for some):

Just remember that not all 18650's are the same.

Yes you can save $ and get cheap cells - but will they provide the Amps you need for a board pulling 50+Amps peak? If you solder these up and make your own packs with cheap cells and one dies...

I personally would make sure the cells exceed the draw needed, and get quality cells vs no-name cells. BUT i'm not quite to the "pack building" stage like others here. I'll stick with the known lipo challenges for now.

I had the same thought bout the Xiaomi packs when i was getting into my first build about 8 months ago. When i looked up the specs of the cells xiaomi uses the amperage output isnt nearly enough for our use even if you did get them cheap.
 
I thought the new Xiaomi powerbank uses 18650, but i was wrong, the 20,000mah version that cost less than 20$ is made of two 3.7v 10,000mah lipos - returning to the original question, you think we can somehow modify it (while eventually keeping them in their enclosures) so we can daisychain a few of them to create a battery pack for an ebike?
