The "Animal Style" controller upgrade is worth it when it comes to performance, but $200 is a bit costly.
I had it done on mine and like it much better. Top speed isn't improved (for legal reasons), but acceleration is! Actually, it spins its tire on start and on hills. This is probably not the greatest for tire life, but I don't care... burn outs FTW!
So if like me you are looking to go faster and rebel against the authorities... LOL... upgrading the internal components would be the cheapest route.
My initial efforts were more on the expensive side by adding an ADD-E kit.
You can see this on my YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4MhY0 ... 7KTMdmdPJw
There are a few videos about it... just look for ADD-E in the MODS Playlist.
I also write about it on the Fan Forum: http://www.urb-e.club/forum/
Again, ADD-E under Modifications
I'm a huge fan and supporter of URB-E, but always keep a close eye on competition. I love customizing and the URB-E is the best IMO.
My focus for performance was adding more of everything, acceleration, speed, and range, so that is why I originally went with a complete additional kit. But I hope to explore a cheaper add on kit in the future and perhaps dig into the OEM components after that.
There are plenty of cool controllers out there, with LCDs, Regen, etc. Size will be important. The Animal Style controller is capable of (but not using?) 15A, the batteries are 10Ah/360Wh/36V.
There are also more powerful motors in this size as well, but I think you may be hard pressed to find a better battery that will fit.
Either way, check out my links and hit me up on the Fan Forum. I ran by this post by accident and probably won't check it too often... =P
