Had the opportunity today to head out to Pit Meadows airport and witness the test flight of John McClintock's new "electric trike" project.

The electric drive is mounted to a North Wings "nano" trike and fitted to North Wings "Solairus" wing ( http://www.northwing.com/solairus-wing.htm )

Piloted by Randy Rauck, fitting into what was becoming a busy bit of traffic, Randy flew a perfect first flight, good climb out, two patterns and a perfect landing. There is plenty of work yet to be done but it was great seeing the project come together.

Global BC new link (interview from the day before the test flight)

Congratulations Guys!

I find it hard to believe that's the first one... The electric para-glider/ultralight fans have been around at least as long as Ive been a member of E.S. If I had of known I would have built a ultra light with grandpas hang glider a few years ago and snagged the "first" Im sure some other people in Canada have had electric flight though and just not bothered to brag about it.

As well as adding the quotes to the title of this thread, I'll add that I had the same initial reaction Arlo1.

Perhaps they are ok with the claim, as it may indeed be the first commercial electric flight trike in Canada. Perhaps it was purely dreamt up by the reporter. I don't know.

I know John McClintok well. Whatever he offers would be air worthy.

The Electraflyer has been around since 2007 IIRC and uses the same northwing carriage, just a different wing. They're also working on a fixed wing model. I've heard very good things about the trike
