I bought a 30 lb minnkota from walmart for $93 today for my little row boat (folding plastic thing called porta bote).
I plan on running it on a little 12v LIFEPO4 battery.

As usual AFTER I bought this trolling motor I peeked at the forum for brushless trolling motor as I was stunned to see that the minnkota was NOT brushless.

Only garmin and lowrance have brushless motors which run around $2k plus,

Really? wow, trolling motor technology is still stuck in the 80s?
Are there any other sources for brushless trolling motors?

duh, I am blind, I see the thread on flipsky

they have trolling motors and outboards, their outboards are quite well priced,

When you buy a $93 trolling motor from Wal-Mart you are going to get the cheapest thing China can make - which means a brushed motor and a one-FET controller.

true, but the lack of a brushless unit for the "ramen" budget guys was disappointing to say the least.
I have 48v batts and a bunch of 36v batts that I can use to power a 36v or 72v motor,

Let's see for $93 - I need:

24 FET controller
1kw brushless motor
100% money back if I fail to catch fish.

Definitely not a pot. It's a selector switch so you can choose one of (say) eight different power levels. Each connects a different combination of those conductors.

If you have a 300 watt motor operating at half power, a pot has to drop the other half of that power. That's not something that's going to be inside a plastic housing.

I bought a DROK PWM motor controller after I watched this youtube video

the guy just sets the Minnkota to MAX i.e. 5 on the control and uses the PWM to control the motors power inline.
Love it,
The only problem I see is that the DROK PWM controller is NOT waterproof or water resistant and COOLING, I will have to add more cooling.

I will going to dry run this tonight, I will have to cut off the factor spades and crimp a quick connect.
