How can I make a simple motor for my electric kayak?

Nothing fancy, just a stick rudder type like you see on the boats in the amazon. Something like a motor, shaft and prop that I can hold onto, lightweight and portable. Thinking of a brush motor and using the 24v lifepo4 pack I already have. As you can see there's no place on the back to attach a motor. If it would just go straight for the most part that'd be fine as once I get near land I'd paddle anyways, it's just those distances between islands etc. Maybe one of you have already built something like this?

Maybe you could use a weed eater with a prop mounted on it.

Without a way to mount a motor its gonna suck anyway.

Anything with enough force to push you through the water is gonna be dangerous and really hard to hold on to.

Sorry for being negative but maybe using the coleman for what it is and find another craft to power up.

How about a small prop in each paddle and batteries inside the tube? Then a switch for each hand turns on the left or right motor.

Just strap a paramotor to your back dude!

In all seriousness a fan motor is a horribly inefficient way to propel yourself across the water.

I think dropping $100 on an electric trolling motor and making a motor mount for the kayack is going to be the most pain free way of getting her done, but be sure to keep us posted on your scratch build ebike motor trolling system if you decide to make one. :D

Ok, just wondering, i thought the motor mount and trolling motor was the way to go, but hadn't figured in the power factor of the handheld, of course my bike motor would be a beast to hold onto.

I remembered this thread when I seen this on ebay.

Terribly inefficient and under powered but it it may help you get out to the islands. And would not take up too much room.

What a clever idea! And when you paddle it can recharge the batteries.
Of course, the paddles will now be relatively heavy.

Although I am sure you can figure out something it's probly hard to beat something like this with an inexpensive used electric trolling motor.

This is actually like what I'm talking about, but I'd rather substitute some other kind of motor instead of a cordless drill. For one thing I have a 24v x 30ah lifepo4 pack for my bike, so are there any alternatives to the cordless drill that wouldn't be too heavy?

how about one of these connected to a 80100 or something ? I think one on a surfboard would be loads of fun...

Can't see how that'd fit on an inflatable but the tech is cool. During my sailing days I got pretty familiar with bilge pumps and some can put out a lot of power.
As far as cordless drills go, they are so expensive and running them so hard would wear the brushes out so quickly it's hard not to just use an actual trolling motor and make a mount for it.
