hydroturbine generator

I had this thought recently, and been wondering about this.
Can car turbo be used as hydro-turbine. Say I take impeller and housing from turbo and mount regular 14V generator onto?
The second idea was using rubber impeller water pump from boat motor and run int backwards. Should be quite efficient...

At the forum "fieldlines.com" there have been discussions about this. A turbine water pump is the best candidate for conversion to a water generator. Search there for the benefits and drawbacks to this method...

I've been interested on solving a similar problem, although using a water wheel instead of a turbine. If the idea could work without macerating small fry... might be worth a look.
