I got some SMD chip resistors from Fry's. Compared to through hole resistors, they were small, but it seemed like you could work with them with some relative ease. I then ordered a bootload off mouser and chose among the cheapest and when they arrived, those things were TINY! I felt like I shot myself in the foot. What? These chip resistors come in different sizes for the same watt rating?

So, anyways, I found out the Fry's ones were 1206 and the Mouser one were 0805. I definitely say I prefer 1206 because you can work with them with relative ease and it seems the pads have less chance of shorting when routing through them, but they're also fairly small so it makes miniaturization more possible, which is oh-so important for that all so costly board area.

Where's the 'none of the above' choice?
Even with magnification, those things are hard to deal with. I guess if you have all the right equipment it's OK, but I don't have such stuff. The schmart boards look cool.

Even old eyes can see a 7225. I think that may even be larger than Through hole resistors.

Also, I think drilling holes is bothersome so I try to avoid it when it's not economically best. However, if I were sending the boards off, I guess I wouldn't mind it.
