With so many options out there –

  • What is your favorite and why?
  • Is it self-powered?
  • How far have you gone with it?
  • Typical weight of load?
  • Any problems?
Pictures please!

Thanks for sharing! 8)

I chose an Xtracycle over a trailer and I'm glad of it. It's the most useful bicycle accessory I ever bought.

No clearance problems negotiating bollards. No extra drag. Can't jack knife under heavy braking. No extra lock required to secure it. No extra tires to maintain. Carries 200# or a full size passenger and I could still tow a trailer or two if needed.

I use an older Burley Lite folder behind my Electric scooter as well as my Dahon Helios mainly because that is what I had from when the kids were small. I use it now to go grocery shopping or haul gear on gas scooter rides. A few years ago 5 of us did a 400 mile ride down the California coast in 4 days on gas scooters and I pulled this trailer full of over 100 pounds of spare parts, gear and gas. I did not have a single problem :)

I use a long shank lock as a hitch pin and it LOCKS the trailer to whatever I am hauling it with.

Couple of trailers, both scrounged junk. One is like CoffeeLuke's, with a dog kennel as a primary component (but it's removable so I can use it as a flatbed. too).

face off a mainframe computer panel, some wheelchair wheels, and some square tubing plus a headstock off an old ScootNGo.

They both use this bike-parts hitch:

The older trailer was the first thing I ever welded up (not counting shop class more than a couple decades prior)

made out of old bike parts and computer desk frame, and I think a piece of a folding lawn chair.

I bought a Yakima trailer on closeout that was a ripoff of the Bob (Yak) trailer. I couldn't buy skewers for it any more (I put it on several bikes), so had to buy a Bob front fork to keep it usable. I suspect that Yakima was sued by Bob and had to discontinue production. Unfortunately, they also discontinued carrying any parts.

BTW, here's a great web site for parts (and trailers). Not cheap, but lots of parts and advice available:

DIY. The good pics got totally trashed but the ones below show most of it anyway...

Surely larger diameter exhaust pipes would improve performance.

I like the DANGER sign; nice touch
Cheers, KF

Thanks..I got the sign off here somewhere...

There's two SLAs (18 and 20ah for 12v 38ah) hooked to a 1kw inverter which powers a 90/180v SCR controller which powers the treadmill motor. 9:1 reduction to 20x1.5 wheel (20x1 3/8 in the pics). I figure I get about 25wh/mi motor-only....w/ only the 20ah SLA the range was 4 miles (while running a 60w bulb ) so I figure I got about 30wh/mi in that test. :D

You can only see part of the black polycarb deck (top pic on the left)...it's sort of triangular and clicks into the yellow forks...it sits a bit too high to be very useful but it makes it look cool. The deck also doubles as a kick-stand which it's doing in the pics.
