ebikekit.com had this posted in their newsletter. I didn't see it at ES. They have 40,000 names for improving biking access and safety. ES members could make that 44,000+!!

Here is their blurb:

I just learned about a great new website to support pro-bike policies and spread the joy of bikes! Check out peopleforbikes.org! They're collecting one million names in support of a better world for biking -- one that's safer, more convenient, and more appealing for everyone.

Every day, millions of Americans like us ride for their health, for the environment, for their communities, and for the pure joy of bicycling. But until now, only a tiny fraction of riders have stood up to help improve bicycling in America.

Peopleforbikes.org is going to change all that. They're building a national movement with the clout and influence to get things done. That means promoting bike riding on an individual level, but also sending a unified message to our elected leaders, the media, and the public that bicycling should have their full support.

Check out their great new website to take a pledge for biking and learn how you can help:

Looks like they at least have an effort going. I added my name, for what little such things are actually worth.

I did however have an issue with their "pick a bike to represent you" sort of thing--it excludes a few (at least) kinds, including mine.

So I wrote them a little note (not that they'll care):

I'd strongly recommend either letting people choose more than one type or allow a "custom bike". I'm probably not the only person out there riding a recumbent cargo bike. ;) But the way the choice is setup, I cannot choose that, as it requires two options.

Also, the type of recumbent you show is only one of many kinds, and possibly one of the least common. If you're going to split up regular DF bikes into so many categories, you really ought to split up recumbents into separate ones for the different types, as well. :)

If you're interested, you can see my main bike in one of it's revisions at http://evalbum.com/2691 and much of it's evolution at http://electricle.blogspot.com with even more at http://endless-sphere/forums/ under the username "amberwolf".

It is nice to see some organizing going on. Sure would like to see e-bike catagory.
