Commencal Supreme dh v1 project

I've been lurking on the forum for a while, but now I'm about to start a project to electrify my trusty old downhill mountain bike. This is my first conversion and I don't know too much so I would appreciate all the help I can get. What I've gathered so far is that I would probably be better off with a hub motor as I don't want to start cutting off chain guide isgc tabs. The rear has 135mm spacing so I assume I can install Mxus motor with 26" dh rim or even motorcycle rim. The frame triangle is kind of tight so fitting in a controller and battery will not be easy. I was hoping I could get some saddle bag type storage or fabricate a small enclosure with very small battery. My main use for the bike would be riding up local trails so that I can coast down. I was thinking I would like to have just throttle and no pedal assist sensors or brake sensors.

What do you guys think? Do my thoughts make any sense?

brake sensors is a must :D if you pull the throttle the brakes will not stop it without motor cut off

but Yes like bike two in this post will work well just use one bike brake cut off on the back brake Or front if you got big balls :twisted:

Wow, That carbon fiber-look alloy battery compartment is nice. I don't think I will be able to fit in a such a large one though. I'm aiming for rides of 5-20k so what kind of Ah I should be aiming for considering I would be using it just for uphills (50%) and limping home.

Do you really think the kill switch is totally mandatory? I've been driving a KTM electric motorcycle and I don't think they have such fail safe in place. I guess you can fit those fairly easily so it is not totally out of the question, but I would just want to build a clean build as possible. Minimum components = less parts to fail.

Where should I source the kit? I've bought bunch of stuff (LED lamps and carbon fiber mainly) through Alibaba in the past, but with electronics I get sent all kinds of crap. So I would maybe like to find a trusted vendor that can provide just the bits I need (motor with rim, battery, controller + throttle).

PS. Have been following this monstrosity here and I thought I would park it here for future reference:

Where should I source the parts or should I just buy the kit from single source:

* mxus motor with rim = Can I order the hub motor with 27.9mm wide 26" DH rim or should I have it built locally at a bike shop with DT E540? Gear motor? 500-3000w for hills?
*controller = What is best? 12 fet or 18fet? Sabvoton I heard mentioned a lot of times
* throttle
* battery = Can somebody make custom locally or can I order suitable from abroad
* hydraulic brake killswitch
* charger = powerlab?

Am I missing something on my shopping list?

I can also recommend Em3Ev for battery. Got their large triangle battery and works great so far

Thanks for the tips.

Would 4t motor be best for hill climbing? Any downsides besides not being able to go really fast on the flats?

<the12be>: Do you really think I would need torque arms? The frame dropout area is fairly beefy and there is a changeable dropout. I will take a pic for you.

inline fuse 100A
Torque arms
kill/regen switch
4t should do the job
programmable controller via Bluetooth to negate the use of bms for discharge voltage, current limitation.
more cells in parallel if you want to climb and batteries last long. I guess this also helps keeping cells in balance for longer interval between periodic balance charging.
invest time/money in throttle water interference.
above is my personal opinion.
good luck

Thanks,
I value the input. Faster bikes looks good. Do they post from within EU?

Shopping list:
* mxus motor
* controller
* custom torque arm fabrication?
* fuse
* throttle
* killswitch for hydraulic brake
* small backbag size battery
* charger

The project stalled a little bit since I've been busy riding my road bike, but I've been soaking up lot of stuff. Especially Grin technologies seems to have lot of cool videos on youtube. To be honest I got little bit discouraged by the drop-outs. The swing arms themselves are pretty beefy on Supreme DH V1, but I will need to fabricate a special insert torque arms since the original derailleur hangers are like this:

https://www.commencal-store.co.uk/rear- ... 2x12502578

https://www.commencal-store.co.uk/rear- ... 2x12502873

I suppose it can also be a blessing as I could potentially save the original hangers. I wonder if 3d printed part would work or do I need to have the torque arms machined.

It seems it will not be that easy to create the torque arms. Any suggestions? Just machine and attach with bolts on the swing arm?

What do you guys think if I take the black dropout hanger part on above photos and machine a replacement out of steel with a hole for a 10-14mm axle would that work?
