If your controller is in the bag, would find a way to get it out in to the air.
You just gave me a good idea for an ebike saddle bag. A saddle bag where the controller forms the bottom of the bag, with only it's heatsink exposed.

That would be great. I forget it's not as hot in other parts of the world as down here in South Texas. Heat is always on my mind.
Don't ride as far as I want yet but would like to do a 700C recumbent and keep the weight down. Make it as clean as your build.

Hello everybody,

I am new here and I believe that this is the right place to introduce myself.

I can see a lot of beautiful bicycles here, I hope you will like mine.

I am from Serbia and I can say that I'm highly inspired by Vintage electric bikes, so I decided to make one of my own.
First, I bought old frame that could be remodeled how I wanted. Then, after a lot of metal work I can present to you my ebike.

Can you guess which is Before and which one’s After? ;-)

Bought the RANS Stratus XP XXL on BROL Classifieds, without wheels or seat for a significant reduction on price + shipping.

https://flic.kr/s/aHsmSjMFd4

No PAS, just dual half-twist throttles (and two separate displays!)

Limited the top speed to 12m/20kph because over that I’m either riding level ground or coasting so don’t need assist. With the two 52V 21Ah Luna DireWolf battery packs concealed under the seat, on assist level 1 the range is well over 100 miles fully loaded in hilly terrain and likely around 200 otherwise. Can tow more than 100lbs extra (bike itself + panniers and trailer weigh ~125lbs, I’m about 180 warmly attired) up the steepest grades at 10.9mph, which is about four times faster than I could make it alone (if at all.)

Have lids for the 6-Gallon blue buckets, but first need to drill holes through their sides for the power cables (just picked up the 7/8” 22mm hole saw) then line with Dow insulation board for the winter. And of course gotta tidy up the cables, waiting on more 12AWG stranded copper. Planning to coil up the excess harnesses and conceal with an Xmas wreath (no kidding!) and wrap all the rest of the exposed wiring along chopper bars and around controller boxes in blue tinsel as a festive holiday disguise. :P

Oh, and also building a matching blue Igloo 48Q trailer from a Wikes kit. Local box stores all out of the 1” square profile aluminum tubing I need for this project, so could be a while.

Will post back upon completion.

Thanks for looking!

OK, here are my before-after-after-after pics.

This was the original, a folding bike from the 1960s:

ebay580Euro.jpg (64.46 KiB) Viewed 1936 times
I converted it to a "folding mountain bike" in the late 1980s by adding a 5 gear hub and strengthening the frame by some welding.
30 years later I added a suspension fork.

10 years later I added the front hub motor (350W) and a 36V/15Ah battery.

Bike took the 100 mm BBSHD very nicely, good chainline, motor centered in frame. No headaches to the install process, feels incredibly solid on the road. Mainly used to ride around local beach areas with my son in a kids seat that attaches to the front stem or both my kids love riding in the tow behind kids trailer

This is the first Ebike I’ve put together, actually, first ebike ive ever rode for that matter. Within the first few pedal strokes I was grinning ear to ear like a madman, totally hooked

I just got into mountain biking last year. My knees aren’t so good so the option of an electric motor made it possible. I paid $1699 from bikesdirect. Seemed like a decent price.

I added the 100 mm BBSHD w/42t chainring and 52v 12ah battery. 27.5x3.00 tires
The bike rides very well off road,it works great in all 12 gears. In highest gear I can pedal comfortable up near 30 mph.
Only 2 things that bother me are the battery not fitting within the triangle and the motor hanging a little low. This thing has been insanely fun to ride. And no, it looks close but, the tire doesn’t hit the battery when the fork is compressed.
