This should be fun!

If it has pedals and an electric motor, let's post them here ..then put it to a poll.

Top 10(?) go to a final vote.

Deadline for entrants -> 12/1/2012.

How about some categories:

Most Inspiring
- Awarded to an eBike that has helped inspire others

Stealth Award
- The best sleeper ebike,

Most Likely to Maim
- Awarded to the bike most likely to injury those that use it

Technology Innovation Award
- Awarded to biggest technological advancement for ebikes

Noob Helper of the Year
- to the ES member that consistently goes above and beyond the cause to help out the noob in all of us.

Guru of the Year
- to the ES member that consistently provides the high level advice need to resolve the more technical challenges

Epic Fail of the Year
- no need to elaborate on this one

The Missing Link Award
- awarded to a member that offers the most valuable missing links that makes it easier to get your ebike up and running
- not necssarily high tech, but invaluable none the less

Pin Up Award
- the poster child of ebikes for the year
- all about the looks

Deathbike is about 50/50 on riders who've tried it an not been injured vs though that were injured. It's also caused 2 real injures in non-crash situations, one pulled muscle in my neck and another guy's groin pull from acceleration related forces. It's also burned my legs from shooting fire out of a kelly controller and a few motors. Even hurt a pro camera guys eyes (and lens) by throwing molten rubber in his face when he squatted down and told me he wanted to film a "good burnout".

I like that it employs such a generous variety of methods to injure. Fire, g-forces from not crashing, g-forces from crashing, abrasions with pavement, crashing into obstacles, cars, motorcycles, trees, etc.

Deathbike is my baby, and I love her, she is my favorite method of transportation, wouldn't change a thing about her, unless that change involved adding power or removing weight. :)

That build thread inspired me to go out and build (OK, start building) a bike I don't need that's way out of my skill class, just because it's so badazz. Definitely inspiring.

Somebody picking an off-the-shelf clyte hubmotor, and bolting it to an off-the-shelf frame with no torque arms or anything, just setting it in drop-outs and tightening nuts, then threading/pressing together a handful of other typical off-the-shelf components makes it the bike of the year for you? Or that inspires you somehow? Are you inspired by the saving a portion of each paycheck for money, picking a part, ordering it, taking it out of a box when it arrives, or the threading it onto a bicycle in the normal done-100,000-times-a-day assembly of the parts?


You realize we have members who build entire bikes up from tubing right? Or bamboo, or hand laid carbon, or re-purposed/recycled materials, design them to outperform anything off-the-shelf you can buy my leaps and bounds, make their own motors and controllers from scratch, etc etc, and your bike of the year is someone who points to 10 parts in a catalog and types in a credit card number...
 
No, someone who does the research among a myrad possibilities and builds a state-of-the art bike, in part based on research at ES. If the sweat factor does it for you, then OK. I prefer intelligence, R&D, selection of components. I believe, for instance, that Heinzmann with a 150 years of proven development, can build a better electric motor than I can. Reaching that decision requires R&D, the purpose of ES. ES has enabled state-of-the-art. I thought that was the point. Instead of razing a nomination, make one. Let the vote count be the decider. I stated my criteria - a bike that I'd want to own. And no, I don't believe in a bamboo frame or fishing line brakes.

The dude bought a cylte HX series. That's the only electric related part he even has, and it's a semi-medium-OK choice at that (it's not a bad hub, it's just like a perfectly average product that does everything OK and nothing outstanding). What "D" has he done in that R&D that you like? Is bolting it up poorly, no torque-arms etc "development" for you?

Heinzmann sells brushed inefficient 350w hubs with NiCd batteries. I don't doubt that's better than you can do, but it's not better than many of us can and do create.

You're kinda amazing to me. Super hype A123 fanboi, then think the best build you've seen on ES is a guy who bought an HX35 and set it into dropouts.

Adding subcategories within a 'Top 10' structure could work well ..we do have a very broad range of builds from an extremely diverse group of builders here - and it would be great to cast a large enough net to showcase the Best of the Best.
