Hi Guys,

For 2013 I decide to get back with my old "Black Arrow" ebike. I decide to repaint the frame and swing arm white better looking I think.

The "new" White Arrow used a Cromotor V2 special thank to Accountant, I use a Kelly Controller KBL96251 this controller is able to output 250 Amps for one minute.

I currently use a 24S Konion pack, and will upgrade to 28S late one. Each section of this batteries pack is mounted and in 6S configuration and I can balanced each of them with a BC168 and I bough 2 BC168 for this job, but one of them his blow out.

I use Shimano SLX brakes with 9" rotor front and 8" rear with the regen option of the controller, to stop this beast. The current top speed is about 78 Km/h on flat road at 24S, and I can climb a wall at 74 Km/h or so.

If pictures worth a thousand words here are the first pictures, need some work to make thins working perfectly but so far so good.

Good day!

Hi Tommy,

Indeed but I’m actually thinking about a new frame for summer 2014 with more Watt-hours with a 30S or a 36S configuration with a new Kelly controller at 150 volt or so and some place to put all the chargers on box to the frame when i need to ride all day!. Or to buy a Greyborg and will modify the canopy to fit my needs, I’m studying different option actually, the Arrow is a heavier frame and the fork is heavier also and really need a lighter set up and the pilot need a diet lol.

Good day!

At this point..... Do you have a motorcycle license? If you do.......
Time for a Zero! ;)

I've had a fight with myself for a long time. I have a 1985 Honda Shadow VT1100 that I was thinking of converting.
I also have a 2003 VTX1800C.

Or converting a 125 or 250 dual sport or even the Kawasaki KLR650.
But really....for where we live? I'm thinking the answer is an Electric Car Conversion.
and a Light DS bicycle.

I've run my DS at 144v HOC and 128v nominal with a lyen 4115 18fet. Nearly 80kph :)
I've got that down to around 80volts now and 53kph. It's a good commuter.

This is the funny thing about electrics......what do you want it for? Then we build it! ;)

But a car conversion would allow for all weather ELECTRIC use :D

Tommy L sends..... and good day to you as well Black Arrow!

Hi Tommy,

No, I didn’t have a motorcycle license, but a like the idea of buying a Zero, but in Abitibi (Val d’Or) the nearest dealer is at about 500 Km (Montreal) from me, did you know if we have some dealers in Ontario nearest to me ? And I can buy a trailer to go riding with Doc next summer ;)

Well at 26S (108 Volt of the charger) the Arrow has top speed of 82 Km/h and I can get a little more speed at 28S (next week).

I have the same problem fighting myself, between a Zero and a new frame for me ebike. Converting a motorcycle is great idea if we can get the type of battery that Zero use in their motorcycle but we didn’t have access to it.

With any DYI conversion the range will be lower and any of those conversions will be heavier than a Zero motorcycle at the end.

I just bought (December) an Accord Sport Sedan 2013 so the option to convert it is not attractive right now.

Cheers

hey black arrow. nice build!!
been doing some reading on kelly controllers and i was wondering how you made it CA compatible.
are you using high current model with external shunt? the ones ebikes.ca sell?
also what are you using for on of switch?
is it inline with main power to controller? is precharge something you had to worry about?

Fred

Hi Fred,

Thank you, your right I use the CA high current model with an external shunt in line with my Kill Switch. My Kelly Controller need an independent source of voltage to power “on” I use a DC-DC converter (laptop power supply connect in reverse) when I turn my Kill switch “on” this power supply took about 2-3 second to goes on and this way it’s like pre charge circuit for my controller.

Good day!

Thanks for reply
Just to make sure I get this.
-You use dc-dc converter with switch, taking power of battery pack. Connect to Kelly controller through J2 wire 1 power input and J1 wire 1 Output. Then before you turn on main pack you turn on dc-dc converter and then proceed to turn on pack.
am i on the same page? :?

Hi Fred,

Nope I only use J2 connector, I didn’t use J1 (from pictures it’s just a dummy cable) when I turn on the pack (Main voltage 108 volt), the DC-DC converter turn on after 2 or 3 seconds after that about 15 Volt is supply on J2 connector Pin 1 (+) and Pin 2 (-) for references, this way the controller is turn on and after the self-test is done, I’m ready to go.

Good day!

Nice build man! My question to you is whether or not you've covered up the terminals on the Kelly. I'm trying to waterproof my Kelly and I'm trying to figure out the best way to cover the terminals where my cables are. I haven't seen anyone else do
it

Hi,

Thank you, I have bought the controller with the waterproof option, and then it’s supposed to be seal from the factory. I didn’t have heat shrink (when I build this ebike) to cover the terminals but I will do it with my new ebike next summer.

Good day!

Hey I also have the kbl96251, was wondering what your motor and battery settings are. I seem to only be getting a max of 118amps from my Kelly even though I set it to 70 and 100 motor and battery respectively.

Nice bike!

Have you an idea about torque during acceleration? If the cromotor is similar to the TC100 at ebike.ca, your battery is at 72v, and your controller give 250A from battery you should have almost 1g of acceleration!

Hi, love your bike and great video too. Can you please share the specs of the bike and sources were you got the parts from?.

Thank you,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

The component are actually listed on the first post like motors, controller and batteries... maybe you can consult this link for further information about the ebike its self (frame and fork mainly) :
