Felt Cruiser BBS01

Post by toro1978 » Jan 14 2018 12:16pm

Here is my build. There is some cosmetic work to be done yet - front fender needs to be installed, a rear lamp is missing and lights aren't wired yet. They should be powered by the bike's battery.

It is a Felt cruiser bike, with a Rock Shox XC32 fork and a Shimano Nexus 3 Inter hub and some other slight modifications. The motor is the BBS01 Bafang 250W with c965 display and a 36V 10Ah bottle battery. The seat is a standard Brooks-like construction and in combination with the 100mm fork gives a really great ride quality. Chainring 52t against 16t sprocket. Disk brake in the front and a roller brake in the rear.

I like that. Maybe paint the bottle battery and stripe it to look old/retro. Most people would not know it is electric. Welcome to the ES family..

Nice bike! Looks like you flipped the stem around. Would make for a nice upright riding position. Did it change the handling much?

I was worried about the handling, it occured to me that it would make for an awkward ark while turning, but after I did that I couldn't notice any difference. Since the seat position is upright (as You correctly assumed) it has that townee bike feel where the rider is just pulling the handles and it is easy to ride one handed. In a road bike where one hangs over the bars it would probably be an issue. I think it also helps that the stem is not particulary long.

Well I finally installed the fenders and the chainguard. The front lamp must be wired.

I never liked how the display rested there on the stem and finally put it behind the lamp using the original lamp clamp. I still have two hole left on the clamp, so if I find some soft plastic to cut a shape out of I will be also able to put the on/off switch there.

Hey, it's been awhile since I last posted on this forum. There was some changes made.
One of the final looks before the major update. As I am pretty bad with electrics and don't know (or don't trust myself) how to connect my headlight to the battery I simply ran + and - from the lightbulb to an old bicycle headlight I had, which resided in that frame bag:

Then I found an used DH fork (RockShox domain) for a reasonable price and had new wheels built. Made logos for the battery too. The Brooks B190 had a 30% off the price so I didn't hesitate for long:

It had a 24/26 wheels combination (with the original rims) and now it is with 24/24 with Berm Masters tires. The Nexus 3 IGH was replaced with a Nexus 7, and instead of the big 7sp revoshifter I used a rapidfire shifter (St-7s20 - discontinued, but can still be found). It also uses this gear interface:

You could use the new one or this old one, with the rapid fire shifter or the revoshifter, it makes no difference - they are interchangeable.
I also placed the bike headlamp behind the big moped light, so I got rid of the frame bag that I didn't quite like:

The last addition is a KMC Koll Knight half link chain.

I actually needed two of those because they come with 112 links and my Felt takes 116. I didn't bother to count before ordering. I am going to use the rest on another Felt I have (non motorized) that has a smaller chainring and will use a smaller rear cogwheel.
