Here’s my first attempt at building an ebike. The donor bike was my 2017 Scott Scale 950 29er.
The mid drive kit I decided to go with based on the general good vibes in reading review after countless reviews was the Bafang BBSHD mid drive kit.
And I’m not disappointed not one bit. A few little issues but very happy with it . Already covered my first 1000km with just 2 issues. 1 problem I had was with the below average crank arms. The left arm after the first 800km started loosening. The crank arm square hole has stretched. So I’ve recently replaced the stock crank arms with the Lekkie buzz bars. The second issue was the stock chain ring.
Hmmm, it took me less than a day of riding to swap it out with the Lekkie 36T bling ring. Much better.
My overall thoughts on the Bafang BBSHD and the 52V 21.5 Amp Panasonic triangle battery pack is excellent.
My daily commute is about 40km round trip and I stick the mid drive on level 2, level 3 for hills. I’ve also unlocked the esc. The 25km/h limit has been lifted but I kept the esc at 5 levels instead of 9.
I haven’t encountered a problem with it. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
