Cuprani's Vector Typhoon | 20S8P Sony VTC5A batt build

Post by Cuprani » Jan 23 2019 8:05am

Hi there, I'm Nils from the Netherlands and recenlty bought a 6kW (72V) Vector E-bike with Chinese drivetrain.

My first EV build was a longboard with 3150W 48V
Image

First build it with Lipo's but now running with my own build 12S4P Li Ion with 18650 Samsung cells.

I wanted to build my own e-bike, but I ran into a cheap used Vector Typhoon.
Specs:

Vector Typhoon frame from 2017
Rockshox Boxxer RC
Fox Vanilla RC rear shock
Magura MT5 (4-piston) 210mm brakes
Shimano Saint Peddles
Engine? S&N 6kW
Controller? Leili Sinus? 72V 80A
Battery and BMS? 72V lithium ion

I bought it for a good price, but with issues. The previous owner could (wouldn't) provide me with all the information about the bike. But I'm not bothered as I would like to rebuild and fix it myself.

I'm for 90% sure the battery is dead.
When fully charged I can pull about 20A out of it. If I ask for more power the voltage drops to below 60V and the controller stalls en needs to be reset by reconnecting the battery.

I will open the battery soon so I can test each cell.

Here some quick pics.

How I bought it.

First mounted the normal bike seat that came with it because I wanted it more to look like a bike.

Leili controller?

Adjustment menu from controller, still hope there is more to adjust like how the power kicks in.

Controller in normal mode

Controller just before it stalls into error.

Does anyone recognize this controller or display? I'm still in search for more information about the controller.
I'll hope there is an option to adjust some variables of the engine settings.

There are a few threads / etc about that company; they're not very scrupulous. Don't know about the quality of their products or support, but there may be some info in one of the threads

Thnx, already read those. These display, and the ones I found an google seem te be different then mine.

I think I will first check and rebuild the battery. If I'm not satisfied with the bike I can always replace the controller as well.

It's been a while since I've posted something here.
Did some minor changes to the bike like the mounting of a stand.

I've been trying to repair the Chinese 26650 battery, but without succes.
I have replaced a bad cell, but this battery is so bad it couldn't even deliver 40A continous.

Image

I extracted it from the battery, and when I did a full recovery cycle for those four cells, one cell was only able to store 200 mah while the other 3 were around 3500 mah.

The bike did a better job on my 44V longboard battery then with this Chinese crap.
I was going for another controller, but I've decided to build a new battery first.

I will use AMTech N.E.S.E. modules for my battery build.
I bought 20 8P NESE modules and I hope to receive them next week.

Also bought 160 Sony VTC5A 2600 MAH 35A cells.
One of the best 18650 cell that's available today because of the lowest internal resistance with acceptable capacity.
So almost LIPO figures with very low voltage sag, and without the safety issues.
The battery will be about 1,5 kWh and capable of delivering 280A, 20,7 kW (in theory).

I will use a smart BMS with bluetooth to monitor the battery.
I will be building the battery next week and will post updates and photo's soon.
