EV Rally/Event in Palo Alto August 25th!

I've been waiting for an event in my area to go to and meet some of you guys and see your projects in person so if your in the bay area make sure to come and bring your EV vehicle! Maybe we can all do a ride or something of the sort. Last year's event was cool.

I'll try to make it. We'll definitely have to plan on doing a ride around Stanford. Hope I don't get another flat this time :wink:

EV events are unfortunately so rare it would be hard to justify a new category for them at this point. Let's hope that changes in the future!

Meanwhile, this category works for me.

The entrance fee is only for vehicles that want to participate in the rally. Most of us scooters/ebikers just hang out in the parking lot and cruise around (NO fee).

They are fairly anal about the safety rules, so we need to head out of the gathering area to have any real fun. :twisted:

Last year the crowd was so large that they ran out of parking, so you might need to park across the street at the shopping area.

Sounds like a great event.

Makes me wish I was back in California or in the process of visiting family back there around that time so that I could attend. My next trip to California isn't until next spring.

so who from the sphere will be making it out to this event? My brother Joystix, Jondoh and myself plan on attending. Ric and I are considering to make it an all electric trek via lightrail and ebikes. Just checking for a show of hands.

This seems like a lot of fun, but dammit, I'm in San Diego which is about an 8+ hour drive. So close yet so far.

All the nerds are in northern California.

If someone can post pictures or especially video of both the event and our own little gathering, it would be much appreciated. Video is better since it's more real as well as 3D (changing viewpoint).

:lol: I know for a fact there's at least one major nerd about a 24 hours' drive to the north who'd like to go too.... alas, too far.

24hrs? I average 20hrs from Vancouver to Los Angeles, and that was when I had slow cars. These days I can do a 372km trip to Kelowna in 2hrs 20min in the turbo car 8) Google maps says 4hrs 4min :lol:

Wow thanks for the heads up. I've been off of the boards for a while but l am always looking for a gathering nearby. We did this last year and it was a blast. We hung out with all the ebike and scooter geeks ( if you want to call us that) then after we did a quick ride over on Stanfords campus and stopped under some nice trees for a cup of Joe. Really it was a bottle of beer....Hope to see some of you guys there again. Maybe we could wear our old VisforVoltage shirts again... I'll be there with mine

There were some pretty impressive rides, but I didn't get to try all of them. :?

Probably the most impressive was the Zero motorcycle:

They really did everything right on that one. Etek motor, custom aluminum frame, and A123 batteries!. This thing could pop a wheelie without even trying.

Nice to see someone posted their pics, thanks Fechter. I know my bro Joystix took a bunch of pics and video footage at the event hopefully he posts them soon.

I was surprised about the attendance drop compared to last year. This was our 3rd year and after the HUGE turnout last year we thought this year would surely be bigger. Turnout was about par with 2005, 2006 was just nuts (I only witnessed 2 scooter crashes this year). Didnt see anything new on the market regarding escoots and ebikes but the Drift had a name change, its now know as the Zero Motorcycle. I offered test rides on my Pumarized GT to all who seemed competent and responsible enough not to wreck my precious baby. The GT drew a lot of attention, I felt like an eBike salesman answering question after question. I had 2 guys ask if I was up for hire to build them a bike just like mine (didnt reply). I let out so many test rides on the GT that my pack was almost completely depleted (none of the testers even noticed the pack was getting low thanks to LiMn), I needed to stay back for a quick 30min recharge before heading to the lightrail station 8mi away in MtnView. When Ric and I arrived in Milpitas (jondoh's stop was further down) we hung out for another 20min recharge before trekking it up the Milpitas Hills back home. It was a long all electric day via ebikes and the lightrail system, lotsa fun.

you know, i'm not sure if i quite noticed an attendence drop. maybe it was those mean greenE scooter people hogging up the test track. i sure spent a lot more time talking to people (mostly newbies) about ebikes this year than last year.

The problem was that it was held much earlier this year than last. I think lots of folks missed out because they were getting ready for school and stuff. I think it was a decent success.

Maybe the e-bike folks should get more involved next year. A display table with motor, battery and controller parts. A demonstration on an assembly and then an auction or something. This could be done with a doner bike and a cheap WE kit.

I totally agree the place seem a lot smaller than last year. I also notice that the Tesla and Wrightspeed car were not there. I had a great time doing that ride with you guys and we need to organize another ride some place in the bay area again. I was worried to let just any average joe ride my bike but forum members were no problem. Thanks for doing switches guys. I get a couple vids and pics soon don't have much though.

Hi Fellas

Great pictures! there were some very strange rides in that lot! its good to see! nice to see Maytag and his machine, I trust the Puma is still rocking for you, it seems that Jozzer on here is running his Puma ok at 80V! he is also using A123 batteries as well, I will try higher voltages on my new Pumas soon to see how they hold up.
