.....Faraday Future has hit the pause button on its ambitious US$1 billion electric car factory on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada.

AECOM, the construction firm responsible for around US$500 million of the work on the new plant, has told Jalopnik that “Faraday Future is temporarily adjusting their construction schedule with plans to resume in early 2017”.

To date, AECOM has completed grading and foundation prep work at the site.

Faraday Future has since confirmed to the website that construction has stopped and that it is negotiating with AECOM about resuming work next year.

The company says that it is now fully focussed on unveiling its first production-ready vehicle at CES 2017, which takes place at the beginning of January. The company has already teased the spacious-looking crossover EV a number of times.

This latest setback comes after Automobile News obtained a copy of a letter, sent around the end of October, to Faraday Future by AECOM, with the latter demanding payment of a US$21 million ($28 million) instalment that it was owed.

Last week news broke that Faraday Future’s backers were facing a severe cash crush. In an email obtained by Bloomberg, Jia Yueting, founder and CEO of LeEco, told his employees: “We blindly sped ahead, and our cash demand ballooned. We got over-extended in our global strategy. At the same time, our capital and resources were in fact limited.”

To ease the company’s financial problems, the Jia cut his salary to one yuan (19 cents) and furiously began cutting back on costs.......

......Worse, industry journal Automotive News and business paper Bloomberg had both confirmed evidence of cashflow problems.

This week, Jalopnik and The Financial Times have reported on communications from unnamed sources, suggesting that things may go badly for the company if it fails to impress at CES next month.

“If CES goes badly, it’s all over. It will be a long while before there is a production car,” an alleged former employee told The Financial Times.

Jalopnik claims to have received a message from an insider, saying: “Don’t expect to see as much as you’d like at CES”.

And maybe they're on the level about having the money to pay someone to do this job. Or maybe that too is vaporware, something I'm far too accustomed to encountering. It just sounds far too optimistic for anything I've heard about them.

but but but... Folks LOVE these vehicles! Lots of (empty) seats! Tons of (empty) cargo space! Designed to go much faster than most urban speed limits! Will still do lots of damages, still injure and kill millions of animals (some human), but in a more "Eco-Friendly" way! No word yet on whether it is hard to pedal (for warmth and for exercise, but also to shave peak power at startups and up hills, etc. So the batteries last longer and lowers overall cost per mile.).

Just guessing but may weigh some thousands of pounds (see energy needed to accelerate any mass).

Anyway. In some books may look like a HUGH FAIL.

Faraday Future is getting some heat, but they definitely deserve credit for the technology.

They have a pretty neat inverter, and it seems like they are doing something neat with battery cooling from their CES unveiling.

Some obligatory tire shredding acceleration.

Found a couple of good RAW videos, no marketing glitz.

Don't know how to embed facebook videos... but

Self driving demo for a critic, they even let him choose a parking spot

It's actually pretty cool! I liked the combination of mechanical rear wheel steer + torque vectoring.

Faraday Future, once seen as a 'Tesla-killer,' is said to be in shambles as cash runs low and executives flee

Business Insider interviewed eight people with intimate knowledge of Faraday Future's business to learn about the state of affairs leading up to the CES presentation. All the executives spoke on condition of anonymity so that they could speak freely.

They described a business in shambles, with more than a half-dozen senior executives departing since last spring — including Faraday's global CEO, who had left just before CES.

Mare Island no longer on electric car company’s radar:
http://www.dailyrepublic.com/news/b...and-no-longer-on-electric-car-companys-radar/

VALLEJO — The city announced Friday that Faraday Future has ended its exclusive negotiation agreement to bring an electric vehicle manufacturing plant to Mare Island.

The City Council approved the original agreement in May.

“Due to the new strategy to focus corporate efforts on development of its first production vehicle and plant in North Las Vegas, Faraday Future has decided to end its exclusive right to negotiate with the city of Vallejo,” the city said in a statement. “Faraday Future will stay in contact with the city, and continues to express interest in acquiring land in the future.”

Faraday was interested in a 157-acre site on the north end of Mare Island, a waterfront site that the city said could accommodate 1 million square feet of light industrial, office and commercial uses. It is located along the Napa River and linked directly to Highway 37, and is viewed as a “vital component of the city’s base-reuse strategy.”

The city said Faraday plans to share its studies about the property.

Mare Island is home to more than 100 businesses supporting 2,300 jobs, with more than 3.5 million square feet of development. Mare Island also has 324 homes, a public golf course and is home to Touro University.

They should both give up the name, since they're referencing an actual person who didn't have anything to do with their business or consent to their use of his name.

Faraday...future looking dim...
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-25/faraday-future-said-to-plan-raising-1-billion-after-leeco-woes

......Electric vehicle maker Faraday Future is planning to raise $1 billion as it seeks to protect itself from the financial woes of its main backer, China’s LeEco, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.

The startup has begun meeting potential investors and is in the process of selecting advisers, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the details are private.

LeEco, controlled by Jia Yueting, is suffering from a cash crunch after expanding too fast and building businesses spanning electric vehicles, smartphones, car-hailing, TVs and a Netflix-like video service. The billionaire recently stepped back from his flagship streaming service as his empire struggles with fundraising difficulties and unpaid bills.

Jia, who has invested over $300 million of his own money in Faraday, will not be putting up any more capital, the person said. The company is targeting large scale investors such as sovereign wealth funds and hopes to complete the funding in the next couple of months, according to the person.

Faraday didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment made outside normal business hours.

Jia Yueting and the Adventure of a Crumbling Empire: Gadfly

Faraday’s progress has been mixed. In January, the startup revealed what it said was the world’s fastest electric car, showing footage of its 1,050-horsepower FF91 outracing Tesla Inc.’s Model S during a showpiece event in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, construction of the plant has been affected with a key contractor requesting additional payments.

The company has reportedly scrapped plans for a California auto plant to focus on building its main factory in northern Las Vegas. Senior executives this week reassured staff that the cuts affecting LeEco’s U.S. staff would not affect Faraday’s growth.

LeEco said this week that it plans to eliminate 325 jobs in the U.S. and reduce R&D operations. The restructuring will reduce the headcount to about 50 people, a person familiar with the matter has said....

Why is it just too easy to imagine Elon's multifarious circus of wonders going the same way?

Hehe... Faraday Future FF91 STILL "kicking around" in medias...
