Fleabag stole my kids bike...

Postby methods » Mon Jun 19, 2017 12:21 pm

At 8AM @ the top of the stairs at Sea Bright Beach on a Monday morning.

4 wheel pedal bike with a steering wheel and bucket seat
Red w Santa Cruz stickers front and rear

F*cking trolls... I ran a grid within 30min and nobody was on foot for a mile+ square. It was not stashed in any of the bushes (which is how it is often done).
That means someone with a car probably nabbed it.

I value that bike at "two front teeth and half an ear".
We are off to look for a used 2 wheel bike.

Sorry to hear. I've been ripped off a few times. The worst part isn't the money. It's probably the violation or psychological part that hurts most.

If you were closer to here, we could whip you up another one pretty quick out of the stuff I already have laying around, I'd bet.

I don't know that it would be worth shipping things from here, but what kind of parts are you looking for, assuming you will be building a new one?

I think he's trying to tell you he's a bit gunshy on that now. Oh god, wait until he sees his kids' pedal car chained up somewhere. I hope he has some sort of proof of ownership. I went through that one earlier this year. I also might have seen my stolen moped going past a few weeks ago, but I didn't get all that good a look.

But of course socialism means having the right to say 'I NEED it' and then just taking it.

Bummer..
I would run a hidden GPS tracker on the next bike.. easier to get payment.
My first major build: 8T MAC motor on a Trek 4500.
The new all-arounder: Leafmotor 1500w on a Turner O2 full suspension.
The wheelie machine: 20" Rear Magic Pie II on a Trek 4300 MTB

Thanks guys...

Some time back an OEM approached me on the GPS in the handlebars idea.
I thought it through - it would fly and I could prototype it for a few hundred bucks.
May require either a subscription (for wide area) or immediate response (for local radio tracking)

As to the bike...

I picked up a pair of training wheels for $10 bucks
I found a 14" bike for $15

I am trying not to be emotional about the bike that was stolen. I got it for only $20 at yard sale on a whim... but he really liked it. If I become flush in cash again I will probably spend a bit more and find a replica replacement... I have 3 weeks before he notices it is gone. The stickers are available local.... ack... like when a goldfish dies or a hamster... to discuss it with him, to avoid it, or to try and fool him. No fun.

If I take it as a positive... well... he can now ride on 2 wheels.
He crashes a lot easier and it is a lot farther down.

Got all three of us new helmets at the Good Will for $3.70 each
We are going out on a ride tonight.

Sorry about the loss man

Tell him the truth. He should understand what the world is really like. Personally, I don't shelter my kid from news that there are people out there with wonky moral compasses; Don't want her to be disillusioned about what's out there.
Get a Cycle Analyst and a Multimeter, you're still a noob if you don't have at least one of each.
