20" wheel bike frame that fits an adult.. got one? [ FOUND ]

Post by neptronix » Jul 13, 2017 10:15 pm

EDIT: I FOUND ONE

Hi! i am looking for a bike/bike frame that can handle a 6 foot tall rider and was designed for 20" wheels..

this includes..
Strong GTS
Mongoose CX24
Downtube folders
Dahon folders..
etc.

Most have at least front suspension and the ability to use 2.0" wide tires.

I'm in Utah, USA.. what have you got for me?
My first major build: 8T MAC motor on a Trek 4500.
The new all-arounder: Leafmotor 1500w on a Turner O2 full suspension.

How about building one just for the purpose? Or modifying an existing one?

FWIW, a 24" frame wouldn't be too tough to modify to use for 20" wheels, if it already has a high BB.

If you need rear suspension that complicates things; if it's not too bad fatter tires would help some.

Front suspension is fairly easy to modify whatever fork to handle a smaller wheel--if it's disc brake there's not really any mods needed; use a 26" or larger fork on a 24" frame to help make up for the smaller diameter wheel; fatter tires help make up the rest.

I like the Yooniq for its large rectangular hole in the frame "triangle". But...it's way pricey for what you get.

Cons: 130mm rear dropouts width limit motored hubs
Pros: CrMo frame, wider BMX type tires, large central frame

My plan was to transfer my BBS2 from a snapped Tern folder to this bike. I never could figure what their bottom bracket was a while back. But they've since added a few more pics in their site and it looks like it would work. Never plunged to this build as my BBS2's innards grinded itself to death.

Respacing a sturdy chromoly frame like that is easy. Finding a 20" suspension fork with a suitably long steer tube for that frame is not easy.

I've seen the respect cycles bike and it looks like adding a suspension fork would adversely affect the geometry because it has such a short wheelbase already, and there is no extra fork height built in.. you'd have to use 18 inch bike tires ( good luck finding such a tire worth a damn ) in order to get the right geometry. But the stem tube length on suspension forks might not be long enough as well.

Same can be said of most minivelos.. i've looked at them all.

I had an A2B and weighed the frame. It's around 16lbs.. quite a pig. The frame design also makes using a large battery a bit of a bother. Already walked away from one of those.

Well, i've got nothing.. so i ordered up something elsewhere that is compromised but probably usable. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, those are ace.. they seem to be going for quite a bit of money on ebay.
Almost everything is right on those, except for how the triangle is constructed.

Recumpence is barking up the right tree..

I've got two Hooligan's, one with a Cute 100 front, and one unelectrified for groceries...they are both super nice in their respective niches..."inner space" riding. Some days I just go meditative and start doing balances and figure 8s.
I got one for 300 bucks on craigslist. It's supposed to be Cannondale's stiffest frame with the super compact overbuilt triangle.

If that doesn't work, i'm going about pulling a recumpence and flipping the shock linkage or putting a long shock on something. --^

That picture is from:

A Downtube 9FS example would be like YPedal's build.
