AU Group Buy Bafang M600 Drive system: any interest?

Post by Dan3791 » Sep 26 2018 9:05pm

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a Light Carbon 27.5" frame from China and the M600 drive system.

The issue I have is getting hold of the Bafang M600's and batteries (BT F03) which is 450wh.

As most suppliers require 5 -10 units per purchase, I was looking to see if there was any interest from Australians for this drive system.

I purchased a 19inch dual suspension frame with an Bafang Ultra for myself and my wife but the frame is too large for her, so I though I would build a carbon frame with a M600, as she was a little worried about the weight of the bike. Hopefully build a M600 dual suspension carbon bike weighing 20kg's.

Hi Dan, I am in Brisbane and I have been looking into purchasing a carbon frame with the M600. Are you selling the ultra frame because I am after a bike for my better 3/4's. I hear some of the suppliers will ship to multiple locations so may not have to be Aus only group buy. Although, would be easier if we can get the numbers.

Hi Rube,

No, the frame does not have to be a group buy, as these are easy to purchase and are about US$130 to ship to Australia.

Yes selling the Ultra complete bike. Have a look on Gumtree as its listed there under Swift Raptor.

There are 2 frames I am looking at, one is the Light carbon and the other is the M09 from Dengfu.

More so looking at a group buy for the M600 system with or without battery, as Bafang need an order of 50 to be able to order direct. But some resellers allow you to buy lots of 5 or 10.

I have enquired with my current supplier if they are able to supply me these in small numbers. Just waiting to hear back. I did order some Ultra's and M400(250w) dual suspension complete bikes a couple of months ago and was very happy with the quality.

Current pricing for M600 is US$640 and US$290 for the BT F03, if purchased in 10 units. This is a 43v 10ah battery. The BT F04 does not fit in the Light Carbon frame, without sticking out. Ordering time for M600 is a month and 2 months for the batteries.

So I was thinking of building my own 48v 15ah battery pack with Samsung 30Q's and using the key hole in the side of the frame for a charging port instead of the key lock/release for the Bafang battery (BT F03).

Cheers

Dan.

The only issue with building your own battery for the M600 is without a BMS with the CAN protocols you will not have access to the ability to configure the system to your liking via the associated app. Really not sure how it will work out without it but it is a different system than the BB series motors with access through the display as I understand it. I do know that the M600 can be run at 52v btw if that is of interest to anyone.

Hi AWD,

Tanks for your advice, I didn't realise this.

If I build my own pack or get a pack from the frame maker, they do custom packs to fit their frame(Dengfu does, Light Carbon can use the Bafang battery) so modifying the controllers setting may be an issue for the future, or I suppose I could buy a Bafang battery down the track just to reprogram. With my current Ultra, I have been happy with the stock settings, although I have the software and cable to reprogram.

I presume that I will be happy with the stock settings as I will order the M600 programmed for the US with a 45km\hr limit, or hopefully if I can order with this limit removed. Anyway 45km/hr will be fast enough for my type of riding. Anything faster than that really chews the juice on the battery. Most of the riding will be single track at about 10-20km/hr going uphill when using the assist.

Cheers

Dan.

Hi Dan,
Have you already built your battery? If yes does it work with the motor well, and what about a throttle? I am about to buy this motor and build my battery by myself so i want to know :)
