So I built this a couple years ago. Works great but I just built a 45amp 30Q pack and don’t need a second for back up.
I bought a bunch of Makita 18 volt packs from Doctorbass and pulled them apart. I went though all the cells, pulled the good and pitched the bad. Built using .2mm nickel and a CD spot welder I built myself. This is a hot off the charger 84volt 22.5 amp pack. Was used mainly on my Vector frame with MaxE and QS 205 3.5T motor. I have the charge set to a max of 4.1 volts and weekly I get about 50 miles average out of the pack. I routinely suck 200 amps out of the pack but only 15 to 20 seconds as I’m breaking most posted speeds by then. I originally built a 24s15p pack (3-8s15p packs) but dropped to 20s (2-8s15p and 1-4s15p) when I got my MaxE. I used all the cells on 1 row for a couple replacements and fixing my wife’s cordless vacuume. All wiring is 12gauge With this sale I’m including an extra 3s15p built, 11 loose cells, about 7 feet of the .2mm nickel and the harness I built to series connect all packs together using EC5 and one XT90-S for spark control. I kept the breaker to use on my new pack. They are wrapped in foam sheets and then wrapped with duct tape. I originally used coreboard but they were too wide.
The not so good,
When I built the pack I bought all the nickel from one of the electric bike supply shops and found out afterwards that it was nickel plated steel. Works fine but not what I entended to use. I just didn’t know until after I had spot welded it. I’ve had a couple cells die in the pack. I had to remove a couple about a year ago and all was good again. It appears I have another bad cell or two. I have one p in the 4s pack that runs about .13 volts lower than the rest of the pack. The price I’m put is as is. If someone wants to pay me an additional $125 I’ll find the bad cell(s) and replace them.
As I stated I regularly ride 40 to 50 miles at a time and 90% peddle which is pretty good. Only a couple times have a ridden aggressively and used the pack up in 25 to 30 miles throttle only. You could use this as a 16s pack for one of the mid drive set ups and is ready to go. When I originally built them I was using my R/C chargers and installed 8s balance taps. I built an adaptor to change them over to 4s for the MaxE and all comes with the sale.
I would prefer a local pickup but will ship at buyers expense because it’s probably going to be costly.
I’d say there are thousands of miles left in these batteries whether you baby them or ride them hard, Koinions are known to be very robust cells, I just wanted to build a new pack.
