Finding a new home for large battery pack

Got something to sell? Have extra parts that need a good home? Have something that others would need to complete their kits? Post it up here and see if anyone else is searching for what you are selling.

Finding a new home for large battery pack

Post by Finite cube » Aug 29 2019 9:25am

My father recently passed away and was a keen member of endless sphere. He made multiple electric bikes both normal and recumbent with his most ludicrous being a 100v 100A set up!
Unfortunately I didn't share much interest for his technical endeavours as at the time I was a bit young to understand what was going on. Just before he died he purchased 2 custom battery packs from shenzsen westart Co. Ltd which are both 18.4V and 20Ah. The intention for this was to make an extreme range velomobile conversion which he would then ride around the UK going to each cancer charity as he did.
Alas he died before he could go on his journey and now myself and my mother are unsure what to do with all the remaining parts.
If anyone knows anyone who would be interested in purchasing the battery packs or have any suggestions as what to do with them any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have attatched a picture of the pack to this discussion if that is any aid to any of you!

List it all in the for sale section here on the forum. We have plenty of UK members, so you shouldn't have any problem selling everything.

A better alternative, and one your father I'm sure would prefer, is to use it yourself. Did you ride any of his bikes? Man has yet to come up with a better form of transportation, and if you can schedule using one around the rain it's an absolutely a joy, and you'll quickly come to realize what suckers people are to ride around in 2 ton steel cages, belching smoke and wasting finite resources.

I do believe the vehicle was described in the following topic:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=78413&p=1157541

My recommendation is not to sell it, but to finish the velomobile and use it. You will seriously have a very efficient and inexpensive-to-operate vehicle. Add a hood piece to the velomobile, and it will be ride-able in the rain too. All up your dad had around 10,000 British Pounds worth of parts in this vehicle including the velomobile, if not more.

Sorry to hear about your father. I've lost family members to cancer as well...

Yes that is his post and I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
With regards to completing the project myself, alas I lack this skills and time to do it as I'm returning to uni in the next few days. We also need to free up space in the garage as we are having work done to the house and at the moment it pretty much takes up half of the garage!
It is a wonderful machine and I find it a shame that it never got to go on the journey it was intended for. From what I gathered from my dad's time on here there are some amazingly capable people on this website so I can take some up to date photos of all things electric including the velomobile and if you or anyone finds someone interested in buying it or any parts for a project I'll be more than willing to sell.

Recommendation: take the machine for a ride before selling it. Seriously, do it. You really need to know what you're about to part with. This vehicle is something special, and your dad knew it.

It also doesn't need to be garaged. You can lock it up outside with a tarp wrapped around it if need be, or maybe even clear out a space to store it in the house, or buy a shipping crate and use that to garage it.

I have riden it and I know it is not for me. Trust me I have taken everything into consideration I want someone who truely appreciates it to ride it. I also cleared out my garage today and it turns out there is a lot more stuff tha I originally thought! I will post everything tomorrow!

Also if anyone has advice on how to ship this product any help would be greatly appreciated as I know there are some restrictions when it comes to moving Li ion batteries around.

Shipping it internationally will be more difficult than finding a buyer in your country, by far.

So a new development on the battery front. I just measured the voltage of the pack and it read 120v. I'm gonna upload a picture of it now just so you guys can check I'm not being stupid.

I’ve sent you a pm about the large batteries. I think they are 32S which is 134.4v fully charged, 118.4v nominal. You can just make out the 118.4v on the white label. The first 1 is faint which is probably why you missed it.

Pretty sure DHL can ship this...

How much are you looking for it?

Am interested... but I'm based in Ireland - can accept battery shipped to Northern Ireland
