Tesla Cells for sale as wrapped or welded packs

Got something to sell? Have extra parts that need a good home? Have something that others would need to complete their kits? Post it up here and see if anyone else is searching for what you are selling.

The plastic is "lexan" with sticky goo on the bottom. I bought from amazon I think.

the nylon is sticking really well. But I do have it pretty torn up. I have rough sanded the lexan top to get more mechanical adhesion. I use an ice pick to pry off the parts, and that does some more tearing up of the plastic.

Overall very happy with the prints. My benchie came out really well. the Hull was VERY smooth... smoke stack... not so good, but that may have been because it was so quick to print, and it needed more time to cool between layers.

can you build a 54.4 [48.1v nominal]30ah pack? what would dimensions be?? I domt know the specs of Tesla cells
Eric,

Same question, with USA shipping. I would need to get a 48 Vdc (with 30~40 Ah) battery pack. Your printed cell holders look fine to me, but I would have to know the number of cells that I would need for my pack(s). I could CAD something up if you want, if I had the dimensions of your cell holders, maybe across five cells.

Hopefully I can figure out a decent BMS and charger set-up. I have some electronics experience, but not much experience with batteries.

Total noob to ebikes here, so please bear with me.

Thanks,

I can build any type of pack. For the dim's of the holders, look at the picture I put up of the triangle pack. you can count the cells and the dims are in mm's. I did measure 5 cells in a pack, and the outside to ouside dim of the CELLS is 96.07mm. The hex holder wall is right about .8mm to 1mm.

I will only ship to the US so if you are in canada, I can ship to a PO box or similar so you can pic up in the US and take across the border.

on the pack size, that is a generic size. I can do pretty much anything, so you need to give me your limiting dims, and I work around that. I have been working with a guy on a triangle pack, and there was a TON of back and forth. after about 30 msgs we are both happy and moving forward on the pack. I am sure it gets a bit annoying me always asking what you want, but I WANT to make sure what I am spending my time making, is what the other person on the other end of the computer is EXPECTING.

If you want to put on your own balance leads, and main leads you can take that price off. I have bought a Bluetooth and UART BMS and I was very happy with one, I was less happy with another (both were similar, one was a 4S (not happy) and a 7S (very happy). I was only using them as balancer.

If you have any questions let me know.

Really dumb question and I've only had a battery with BMS before. How difficult would this be to charge and use safely?

That all depends on what you are using to monitor them and how much effort you are willing to put into being the human BMS. Most good cells stay pretty well balanced. If you are willing to monitor them and occasionally balance them you could get by. It really depends on how you want to use them and how much you are willing to interact with the pack.

For instance:
If you want to charge the pack totally full while its unattended and then ride it till its totally dead then you really want a bms.
If you are letting other people charge or borrow the bike that know nothing about it then you want a BMS.
If you are pulling relatively low current where the BMS is $30-50 then you probably want a BMS
If you don't know or care to learn much about batteries then you want a bms
If you don't want to have multiple ugly balance taps hanging out of the pack then you probably want a bms
If you don't own any RC balance chargers, alarms, cell logs etc. then its cheaper to just get a BMS

I use an RC charger to balance my 20s pack every few months. When I use a normal bulk charger I stop at 4.15v per cell. I also plug a cell log into each balance cable when its close to done on the bulk charger or before a ride just to make sure everything is stable and balanced. I also use low voltage alarms when I'm on a long ride where I'm getting into the last 10-20% of my capacity. The bummer part is that cell logs and LV alarms will pull the pack out of balance if you leave them connected. They would be almost as good as a BMS if they could be left connected.

For what its worth I would never give someone else a setup that required this much tinkering. It's a bit of a hassle but the bike is a hotrod and not daily transportation. I'm a hobbyist and find it interesting getting to know my battery packs. My packs get moved around on my fleet of FrankenBikes and I'm pulling 80-100amps from the pack. It was hard to justify a $100+ BMS on $250 worth of LiPo.

These Tesla cells are way safer than LiPo so you don't have to be as paranoid as I am but you still don't want to trash a nice pack. Even if it's not going to burn your house down.

Hope that helps illuminate some of the factors involved in the decision.

I have an icharger. I also use a cell logger to monitor my packs. Tesla cells stay pretty balanced if not abused (dragged down to far).

BMS 's are good but not required if u can be the human BMS. If u can monitor the voltages and not drag the packs down to far u can work just fine. But u also NEED a balance charger. You NEED a way to monitor ur pack.

The bike is mainly used by my dad and I want it to be pretty easy to maintain. So I guess that puts me in the BMS camp for this project. If I buy a BMS to send your way would you be into doing a BMS pack?

Yeah, I can do that. I can also print a case for the BMS if it needs one.

Pack went out today. Took me a while to build it (sorry about that). But I am VERY happy with those nylon holders.

If anybody wants nylon holders let me know. I sell them for .15$ per cell. you need a set top and bottom, so you need to double your cell count. They are 7mm thick.

The nylon is so strong I can hold the entire pack by sticking 2-3 fingers in the empty cells on the ends and carry the pack that way. If I did that with the cast urethane then I would drop a pack :(!!!

You can see the process of this one.

? What is it . How about a Plastic ruler on top. Also what do you think it weighs ? Good power-sharing.

It is a battery.... Lol... Each cell weighs about 53 grams all said and done 168 cells so ... Ugh math. Who uses this? 8.7kg

The thing is SOLID. I was surprised at how stiff it was with the new nylon holders..

It took me a number of designs to get there.

It fits in the triangle of a bike. Guy said 3C max pull. That nickle can take about 30amps per cell MAX. 15 amp per cell continuious is probably a good number

Ah it was a 14S12P.

A pretty big boy. My charging battery 8S3P of 20ah pouch cells could not cycle half that battery. I may need to make a bigger cycle battery for big packs.

Look at the cells they are 18mm in dia... There is your scale.

Yes 168 cells. Each cell is 11wh, so it is 1.8kwh pack. Big...

Well I want a 160 cell triangle pack and since one is in front of you I thought you could put a tape measure on it so I wouldn't have to guess. It would need to fit my bike for me to be interested .Thank you for your support.

I'm interested in a 52v 40ah triangle battery pack to fit inside a 2018 trek ds 2. How much would it cost and weigh?

Another battery pack for a guy. This one is a 20S7P. It was difficult to come up with the right layout on this one. No real good way to get lots of nickel between the cells. I will have to solder a copper wire to the center of each one to help with electrical flow. The 25mm wide nickel maxes out at 38 amps... and that is MAX MAX MAX, like a 10 second pull. And he says he will have a 45 amp continuous, so I need more. A 16 Ga wire MAX's out at 58 amps... so that will work.

Below are pics of the progress.

Printing the holders... NYLON IS DA BOMB... SO much bettery than the cast urathane... SO SO SO much better!!!

I got a module in this week. I am going to remove the cells and I will have 444 cells ready for sale late next week if anybody needs them, or packs made.

The cells are from a 2016 70. So I don't know right now. My Icharger blew up last week, and I just sent it off to get fixed. Once I get it back I will check.

I checked the capacity on the cells.

I cycled them from 4.1 to 3.0V and the capacity was 2800mah. So I think that is on par for 18650BE 3200mah cell with a realistic capacity of 3000mah.

If I had gone to 4.2 and 2.5, it would be much closer to 3000-3200mah, but I don't like to push the cells like that.

I will sell these cells for 3.85 each. I have over 300 if anybody is interested.

The cells come wrapped and washered.
