Hacking a Boosted Board

Im not trying to make any cash by doing this for others/ take responsibility for anything that may go wrong, merely showing what Ive done to get more range and offer help. I have no intention of producing this for others, though If you're local I can help with soldering if need be and talk to you in person but the rest is all peel and stick. Sorry, already getting requests **********

rev.cresci - I am local to you (Palo Alto) and going to attempt the same mod you have pulled off - would you be willing to help me with the assembly and do some riding? Let's get together, btw thank you for posting here, your ideas great! bgrauss-at-gmail.com nine two five three six six six one two one mobile

Hey guys,

Here is the description of the replacement belt for Boosted. It is only $6.81 and it's newer version reinforced with kevlar.

SKU - 219-3MGT-15 - GATES 219-3MGT-15 POWERGRIP GT3 SYNCHRONOUS BELT- 9400-5073

Here is the link for YT. I added 2 pack and I get 15-16 miles in range. Check out my other Boosted videos...

I did this over the weekend. Big thanks to rev.cresci for the links to the battery packs and serial connections. And of course props to the OP for busting open the board in the first place. So far so good, at least triple the original range. I am interested in making a safer enclosure so the batteries won't get punctured by passing debris. I am able to use the stock charger too! charges surprisingly fast. I just plug in the charger, then the external battery. Those more familiar with this kind of pack and battery management systems/chargers, let me know if this is a bad idea. Does not seem to balance cells other than just put everything up to the same voltage. ~40.6 when fully charged. Here is a link to some pics, including where to solder the wires. Excuse my poor soldering. Practices on the EC5 connectors then just went for it on the board with a weller 140/100 soldering gun.

Welp, found the weakest link in my setup. The adhesive on the velcro came off the duct taped battery pack, battery hit the back wheels and i went flying. No damage to the batteries, I got some minor road rash. Gotta think of a better enclosure/attachment. I like OP's, but not sure if i want any straps going on top of the board.

bought three of these prototype packs of 10s 18650 packs with bms
. Where did you buy these prototype packs? @agraham. I am looking for similar packs, or plan on making them. I would like to have the BMS to avoid having to use a balance charger. Ideally what discharge rate are we looking for for the boosted modification if I am tapping into the BB discharge wires? Thanks!

The BMS is balacing my 18650 packs. I charged with the BB charger for past 4-6 months and the cells are perfectly balanced. The BB BMS will take control over the 18650 cells.

Awesome! I think I might take that route. What BMS are you using at the moment? Since I am creating 10s 18650 packs I'm looking for a compatible narrow inline BMS so it can be part of the battery. Any suggestions? I have seen your YouTube links and it looks like you did not use a BMS at that time. I would love to see how your set up with the BMS looks like. It would be helpful if I can get a specific brand or link to the BMS used. Thank you very much silenthunter

Hi all,

i have a boosted board first generation and my battery is dead. Can somebody explain how i can replace the batteries and the board will work later on :). i mean i dont wanna add batteries i just want to change the originals

I went to an batterie shop and they told me that the batteries are broke for sure they got new batteries but they said it will not work because of the BMS (battery management system) - i dont know if thats true or not (i am mechanical engineer not electrical :( .. )

So my question is: what batteries should i buy which tools do i need and how can i make my boosted board work again. If i charge it now it only runns for 2-3 minutes and then dead :(

the battery shop already took the batteries out from the board and they would make a new akku for me but i also would try it on my own .. now the board is without the any batteries

i would highly appriciate if somebody can help me to get my board fixed, i am from central europe and the shipping to USA would cost me 200 USD. So i would rather try it on my own before sending it to boosted for 200 usd and then pay additional for the repair work

thank you all for any hints, and sorry for my english

BR
Simon
