Soo I thought i would create a thread that has links to various Gear models that can be 3d printed and used in the gear system of an electric longboard.
Feel free to add your own gears etc. Printing gears could potentially be cheaper than making the gear system manually.
Note: I did not make these my self. Full credit goes to the creators of these gears.

42t HTD5 Wheel Gear for Abec clones

Hi there

Great work man, thanks for the effort.
Just asked for a quote on one of those Abec clone wheel pulleys.
I bought a new set of 97mm Abec clones and my 40 tooth Abec 11 pulley does not fit. See if the printed one does as I saw one that was adapted for these clones.
Don't know how long it will last, if it fits, but my Backfire board has a plastic cog and is still going fine so will be interesting to see.

Try the first link. Thats what i used and i also have 97mm clones. The version that worked for me was the "Thick" model and the thick retainer. I found this out the hard way by first printing the normal 9mm version and found that it did fit but i couldnt get the rod through to the other side of the wheel. Then i tried the thick version and it worked great. Used 3/16 threaded rod with nylocks on either end and it is extremely stable.

Hi
Thanks for the tip mate.
Can you tell me what you paid for the print?
I just got quoted between 28 ->50 GBP depending on layer thickness. (Some hybrid plastic that is supposed to be harder than the standard)
What layer thickness did you use?
Cheers

Hi Torque
I quite agree but I just do not find anyone who has the cog in aluminium that will fit the ABEC 97mm clones.
These clones have 'fatter, spokes than the originals.
The cog of my Backfire board fits perfectly, though this uses a 3mm pitch tooth pattern so I can,t use it on my 5mm pitch build.
The 97mm, instead of standard 83mm, on my Backfire board are great. Think I will probably strain the motor in the long run there - I don't think there was much room left for improvement when they built it. :)

@WeeChumlee - The fat spokes are standard for any of the ABEC clones in any size. Any gearing from Alien, Enertion or myself would work. I'm currently out of 44T pulleys though for a 97mm wheel if that's what you were looking for. I have 15mm in production but not yet finished.

I printed it my self. Cost me about $2 in filament to print. Didnt realise companies would charge that much to print a ~50g print. I used a layer thickness of 0.2mm i believe.

Hehe, that was the cheapest quote.
Look at the attached file for another quote I got - One has to but laugh...

@ Torque
I have an Alien drive 40T on my original Abec 11 83mm wheel, does not fir the 97mm clone wheel though.
I spoke to Dexter through your site and he helped me out. I ordered a 15mm 44T drive pulley and a 15mm 12T motor pulley. (2 x 300 Belts as well)
He mentioned that they were not is stock but I ordered them anyway and will wait. (Hope not to long)

Really happy that they are available in 15mm as I find the 9mm belt I have now is inadequate during braking.

Cheers

If you're still considering getting the pulleys printed, it's probably worth taking a look at 3DHubs or MakeXYZ -- it should be quite a bit cheaper than professional SLA or SLS prints.

Yeah, that is a laugh... Have you tried uploading the bits to shapeways? They are an amazing print company based in holland, so just across the pond if you are talking GBP. Website is shapeways.com, I would either print it in the SLS nylon (white strong flexible) or you could look into the metal print bodies if you really want metal and can't buy a machined one. They probably have the best printers in the world, super accurate and I've never had a problem with them. I've printed a bunch of snap fit designs and stuff, so need accuracy. Quotes are free and easy, just upload it and the next page will tell you what it costs to print it from each material, and if there are any issues with the model for each material as well.
