A few years ago, an e-bike would have set you back a few grand, but a new cohort of electric bikes, such as the MATE, is pushing the cost down to well below $1000.

I would say that their claimed 55 mile range (13.5 Ahr, 350 watts, 20 MPH) was a tad optimistic.

Ridden slowly? Down hill (with a tail wind)? And a fresh, fully charged battery? Perfectly reasonable! [You Silly Guy. Geees]

(Might remind some re the Sondors "cheapo" ebike, where the Number One topic of conversations online seems to be "upgrades".)

With the standard features it offers, at that price, seems like it would a hot seller as an entry level ride. Too bad they felt they had to exaggerate the range! 10 to 20 would be more believable and still impress people,.

Sure. Their last day without a huge dept burden they will never be able to pay back.

They sold 45 bikes at a price that will not cover their cost and they sold 245 (out of 200?) promisses for bikes that they will have to sell each at a loss, too

And somehow someone bought 1361 battery pack upgrade options. What the hell?

I fail to see the business idea.

And I also fail to see how this sums up to 3 million? It's not even close to 1 million. To me all of this sells very fishy

At the goal of 82.000US$ they could have survived their losses on something that might have looked like a good idea to start. Now they have a real problem.

Any one out there got one and want to elaborate on the techies before the mate community rises? I wonder how to mod the speed for example (its a S and a bit too speedy for Europe - but still wanted the 350W).

Waiting for an ETD confirmation for 55 bikes with cancelled modules to US. Stay tuned for more information!

Hey - anyone know if it would be simple to exchange the back wheel to a more powerful one (maybe 350W ->750W) without changing the rest. Im - as you probably guessed - a noob.

... Hehe... and I see the folks at Mate are still "in the game"... issuing a PR re CES 2019...

Crowdfunding Miracle-makers at #CES2019 Want to Start an e-bike Revolution:
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...-to-start-an-e-bike-revolution-300775885.html

Includes:
Today, more than 7.500 units of their initial bike MATE is riding the streets of 52 different countries around the world, just as more than 10,000 units of the MATE X have been sold through Indiegogo, which is also why Mate.bike is one of the poster childs at the crowdfunding platform's booth. And Indiegogo CEO David Mandelbrot have previously highlighted Mate.bike's achievements as the essence of crowdfunding:

"Most notable is how Mate bypassed traditional retail channels and went directly to consumers instead. Thanks to this approach, the Mate team has become the largest crowdfunding campaign team on Indiegogo, and they have been able to harness their success to bring their latest new products to their fans."
