Hi all, I've ha d a friend ask me to look at which would be his best option for getting some 240VAC to his cabin in the mountains, The weather here is quite poor most times so we were thinking maybe some sort of combo setup like some solar pannels and also maybe weld up some home made turbines using car alternators to charge a bank of old car batteries, I know it sounds a bit rough but the plan is just get enough for at least 1-1.5kw but as cheap possible,

How much use does this cabin get ?
Permanently occupied ?, one night per week ?
What do you intend to power ?....just lights, heating, cooking, hot water, ????
Im guessing you do not want a generator ? (Probably the simplest , cheapest solution)

"Best" is relative; you'd need to define specific priorities and needs, along with actual power usage (both peak and continuous watts needed, as well as kWh needed) to figure out what "best" means in this case.

A generator is the only easy and relatively cheap option, if neither wind nor sun are constant and sufficient.
