Legends dropping like flies

A few years back the local morning show had the guest being told '. . . .On the guitar, one name remains preeminent. DUANE ALLMAN.' To which Greg Allman responded in surprise: "Greg Allman?" And sounding like he's doing a Johhny Carson impression "I---Did Not---Know that." So was that a joke? Or was he really that out of it? People always wondered.

I did not recognize the song they played, odd thing was the song they played, talked about dying.

Known for his incredible solo runs, great singing voice, and since of humor (when he wasn't loaded) the great Glen Campbell was as entertaining as any act I ever saw. He was prolific and successful for a reason....Boy could he ever sing and play guitar!!!!

Rip Glen

Snip......

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Glen is survived by his wife, Kim Campbell of Nashville, TN; their three children, Cal, Shannon and Ashley; his children from previous marriages, Debby, Kelli, Travis, Kane, and Dillon; ten grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Barbara, Sandra, and Jane; and brothers John Wallace “Shorty” and Gerald.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through the CareLiving.org donation page.

A personal statement from Kim Campbell will follow.

The family appreciates your prayers and respect for their privacy at this time.

Campbell’s life of triumphs and tragedies began with his early success in the music industry. The Arkansas native left the country for the city of Los Angeles at the age of 22 after forming his own band, Glenn Campbell and the Wranglers. In 1961 at 24 years old, he wrote “Turn Around, Look at Me,” which garnered some acclaim and led to his first big shot with Capitol Records.

Eight years later, Campbell was collaborating with some of the greats, and his connections in the music industry got him his own variety show, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,” which premiered on CBS in 1969. It was an immediate international hit; Campbell was nominated for three Emmy awards before it was canceled in 1972. After the show’s run, he toured with The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and others, according to The Boot.

He’s sold about 50 million records and had 27 Top 10 hits, including “Rhinestone Cowboy,” released in 1975. He was nominated for 21 Grammy awards and won 10, including for “Gentle On My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and “Wichita Lineman.” He also won 10 Academy of Country Music awards, including the ACM Honors lifetime achievement prize in 2016.....snip

So I guess we'll hear all the jokes about what Hugh Hefner was doing when he died. And I guess he'd have loved every one of them. I remember they were trying to sell his mansion without him having to move out, he was to get to stay there until he died. Don't know how that turned out.

Wow that son of gun outlived his expiration date as it was imo. (lol).
I liked Hugh as Hugh and for his out of the box thinking ( more business than sexual stuff . . . but).

Jerry Lewis was a funny actor, but was he that funny of a real person? I wonder where a person's 'essence' goes when they die? Didn't they measure that a dead person weighs less than alive by a few grams? Wasn't there someone that used special photography to see something leaving the body at TOD?

I'll never forget those fuzzy black playboy bunny logo seat covers that I traded someone for. Had them in my new tacoma back when I was partying at age 20 around 15 years ago. My girlfriend looked really good naked, sitting on one, and they felt good too :D

So hey, how come Canada will make Trudeau father and son Prime Minister but not a man of the people like Sam Panopoulo? Sounds like Iceland could use a clear headed leader like him.

Good point! We're not as egalitarian as we pretend when we keep electing these intellectuals and genteel pretty boys.
I would vote Hawaiian pizza if it was on the ballot. But not steak with ketchup/side of gold leaf ... ooops! wrong thread! ;)

Justin got in, I bet, from his late fathers influence and connections. Exactly the same as Bush, and Hillary was riding on the same bet.

Oh, don't get me started. I know you want to, but I'd still rather keep it about PIZZA!

Justin, just in. Sometimes the names are perfect. He even got his Dad's iconic Mercedes. Oh, lets not forget his mother, the bridge between Jackie and Melania. Note the resemblance to Ethyl Place, (NOT Etta) wife of Sundance (NOT kid.)

^^Yeah I bet you do want to keep it about pizza. I do like to eat, and a good pizza is great to have. I go to an independent place called Tommy's Pizza in Calgary AB, its strictly pizza with the exception of thick bread slices either cheese or garlic, then there's one lasagna offering or one pasta offering. The rest is PIZZA! Dont get it confused with the disgusting pizza at Toms House of Pizza, which is a chain. It used to be great a decade or more ago.

The other is an Italian restaurant in the Lakeview community mall, or the Starlite Diner off Southland Drive. For nationals, Panago over Boston Pizza over Papa Johns over Domino's over Pizza 73 over Pizza Hut over Little Ceasars, but if you got a hankering for pizza and your broke, Little Ceasars $5 pizza's are good a few times a year.

Verns Pizza has HUGE meat piled on top. You gotta be in the mood for that.

Tomorrow I am having pizza!

A round here the best pizza is Roundtable Pizza. Pricey, but not the most expensive. Pie-ology is good and different but not really worth what it costs. If it's someone's birthday and you know they like it you might bring it, but I'll eat Little Caesar's $5 and it's fine. Better at Costco for a much bigger one for $10.

There's the legendary Great Western Pizza we only had near me when I was growing up, one of our recessions took them out. It was another cheap but good. Then Pot Belly Pizza, Brooklyn Pizza Works, etc. The expensive special pizzas, also legends lost in time.

Oh NOOOO!!!!!!

I always loved Tom Petty!

Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is clinging to life in a Los Angeles hospital, according to TMZ. An earlier LAPD report which confirmed the singer's death, and which CBS reported, has since been clarified.

(1/2)The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertantly provided to some media sources
— LAPD HQ (@LAPDHQ) October 2, 2017

(2/2) However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting.

The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support, reports TMZ.

Gord Downie frontman for The Tragically Hip passed away,

He was larger than life and did a lot for the Canadian music scene, RIP Gord,

Gord will be missed, Gordon Edgar Downie
The Hip is being played all day today on the radio. I always liked this improv of a very early song they did called Highway Girl, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV4GAlI4C_Q
It still made me chuckle when I heard it today.
They play the regular song, then halfway through Gord just wings it on goes on a rant of whatever is in his mind.

Somebody was once telling John Hillerman he was the guys ' favorite British actor. To which Hillerman replied "I'm from Texas." I was already missing him since he decided to retire 20 years ago.
