I've never had issues before this summer. I guess the more e-bikes are on the road, over powered and riding hard the more effort the police put into making an example, giving tickets and worst case impound the bike.Powervelocity.com wrote:Limitations, limitations...
How do you guys deal with the 250w limit on ebike in Europe? Just hope that police would have something better to do other than to chase you down?
What happen to me twice was I got pulled over, first time 40 km/h, second time about 25 km/h. First time on an ever so slight downhill. I was ghost pedaling. One look at the fat pig hub and they asked about "how many kw"? I was cool but honest, and told them about 10 kw peak for a few seconds before meltdown, only for off road riding. Mentioned controller fet blow out, de magnetizing and wire melt down. Said road mode was about 500 w peak and about half nominal. They bought it and I went my way.
Second time I was ghosting too, I was pulled over because missing rear light in the dark. I said could not be and that I used LED light and if bike runs light is on. As I stepped off the bike the light was on......I had a new jacket on, 3/4 length that was actually hiding rear light. Second time they didn't ask anything about the e-bike. I've heard from other e-bikers they have been stopped the past months. I think they are trying to scare of the youngsters or something, cos I have not heard of anyone getting a ticket.
