No doubt I will buy one of those rigs.

After I cut my teeth on this Cyclone kit I will be ready
I can source the motor, decide on mounting location, etc.

I dont like buying "gangster" stuff as a nOOb.
nOObs should buy nOOb stuff.

Gary had overpowered x5's and moved on.
Gary had a cyclone, as good as an x5 overvolted an moved on.
What you want is a bad assical setup thats light.

My bike it getting closer to being ready to roll everyday.

It sounds like these guys know that the vortex kit is crappy. However, I know you are the kind of guy that likes to do something 3-4 times, and the hardest way possible every time. I respect that, and I recommend you follow your heart, then follow your heart again and again trying in vain to match my machine :)

Here is a picture of my solution for the motors and mounting. Twin 7,000w motors and giant outboard super high quality bearings and heat sinking.

I think it is very elegant and more stealth than alot of other setups, IMO. :wink: He uses a fairly small motor to get speeds around 30 MPH. With a bigger motor and a bigger drive pulley this thing could be a monster, with the right spokes. 8) Heck, it's pretty much the same thing Matt did, except all the reduction was done in one easy to bolt on step. He even puts 7KW through his spoke mounted rear sprocket. Price: $400 WITH an HV85 controller.

Well, in the last couple weeks, I've only been able to spend about 3hrs on the project... So that doesn't help things progress very quickly. If my schedule will calm down a bit, I should be able to finish her up in perhaps 2 relaxed pace days of working. I have all the pieces I need sitting on the table, it's just a matter of fabricating a few more custom parts.

I have ridden my GSXR1000 just in my boxers down a bike path doing wheelies at 100+. However, shifting quick and precise is really painful on your feet, and the pegs bruise the arches of your feet badly. Not recommended.
Don't worry, there was nobody on that bike path at the time.
 
That was years ago. I went through a very reckless stage in my life that was far from wreck-less. When I look back on my college years, it was a miricle I ever survived. I think NEVER EVER drinking or doing any drugs gave me just enough of an advantage to squeek passed the reaper.

Now I wear my 1 piece alpinestars supercross leathers with titanium and kevlar skid pads, superbike gloves and boots. I also try to keep superbikes off the bike paths... With the E-bike, I think I will go with my full face superbike helmet and superbike gloves. Maybe my Joe-rocket kevlar jacket if it's cold out. I don't plan on dying from something electric.

Hurry up and order something Methy! I want the chuckles you will provide us all with as we watch you frustratedly hack your kit appart on a quest to turn it into the level of performance you desire. :)

I predict we will all get to learn the upper voltage limit on the vortex kit motor :)
 
Dude, I am way ahead of you.
The kit is already on a plane via EMS

The 12S 4P 44.4V 20Ah lipo is all ready to go
Charger is ready, balancer is ready, lipo cell level monitor is ready
I got 4 sets of Avid Juicy 7's all bled and ready to go
All I need is this motor kit
I will have it up and running the weekend I get it.
(which btw, is before you will have yours running ;)

Now I am struggling with getting all the rest of the parts ready in time.
Currently I have no shifter on the Kona.

Do I buy a shifter for it or just go out and buy one of these internally geared hubs?
(this is all new to me, before Project Mayhem I never even owned a bike)

GARRY - Can you "bang" the gears on these internal hubs? Is it possible to shift under power or even partial power?
Please explain what it is like to shift with the Cyclone kit and internally geared hub.

whoa buddy. This one is a no-brainer. You GOTTA do the nexus hub. Gary says they hold the power fine, and for the price it cant be beat. I'm even wanting to scrap my rear wheel setup and get the nexus. Derailers and crap are a nightmare with high chain speeds, you do NOT want to play that game. Your chain will ball up on you into a nightmare everytime you stop quickly, and cause other problems.

The difference between that x9 and x7 is that one is for a 7 sprocket and one for a 9 sprocket... lol But seriously, you don't want to be playing any of that crap. All bad. Internal gears are the way to go. Don't shift anything under load. That's for douche bags with TH400's.

Yes, you can shift under load, no problem. These Nexus hubs are pretty tough. I know a guy in San Diego that uses them on chopper-style electric motorcycles with Eteks and MARS motors.

The X7 is for a 9 speed.

And the Nexus hub wont do a disk brake!
What am i going to do with my 4 sets of Juicy 7 disk brakes?!?!?

Sturmey Archer with disk is an option I guess. I own one of their drum brakes. The fit and finish is great but the braking sucks. If you spin the wheel on their drum brake it rolls for 5 minutes. . .

Cuz I cant do rim brakes at all. I am running a 24" wheel on a downhill bike.

Seems like a rear coaster brake would be asking for lockups :shock:
I locked up my chopper bike going 30mph and almost hit the back of a truck. (though all I had was a coaster brake)
Probably wont help me while going off road either.
