la Nina rears her ugly head

0.3 inches of ice with 1" od snow on top. Treacherous. 47F in MN Friday next! WTF?

been getting *just* down to freezing by dawn the last couple days, with highs of first mid-50s, then mid-60s, and today was just over 71F high (the low will probably still be near or at freezing).

Isn't getting cold enough long enough to even frost the ground, though, much less freeze the dogs' water dish crusty or anything.

Most of the rain stayed to the North, we just got a few small dark clouds.

0.4 inches here. They say that's it for the rest of month. At least it's still above freezing at night.

Impressive looking pineapple plume of moisture. That is until you click the box NWS Fronts which reveals the blocking area of high pressure whifh is keeping SoCali warm and dry this week.

The good news: 80°f all week. :) The bad news: no rain for the period.

Lows to the Northwest, West, Southwest, and South. Moisture from the North Pacific, combining with pineapple and pitaya streams. Tequila moisture to the South and Southeast. WE GET NOTHIN', NADA, ZIP!
Oops, we did get record highs.

It's almost summer-like here with highs in the low 70s. I see it's in the 80s down south. Not bad for February. But we really need some rain.

You're right about socal; it was 80ish yesterday with more of the same for the foreseeable future and no precipitation in sight. Drought-time.

This time last year it was soggy and cold; I had to clear out a shed to do the SB Cruiser woodwork, and Kirin laid out in the rain waiting for me to be done with various stages of work, on my time-off-work then.

I'll have another week off this coming week, this year, and it's expected to be 80-85F going up from today thru Wed (end of forecast), so probably keep going up after that.

Snow all gone where the sun hits. 40f Tues, below zero tonight. Below zero with no snow cover can drop the frost line below 6 feet and freeze water service.

Around here, you're lucky if supply pipes to the house from the street are even a foot below ground, but here in the valley you don't generally get freezing temperatures long enough to worry about that (especially in recent years).

87°f for the high temperature today, but stays nice and cool in the house so it doesn't feel like it. Chance of rain on Tuesday is now up to 33%. Satellite view shows a wide expanse of pineapple-fed moisture over the Pacific Ocean. Last year we had over 15 inches by this time, this year less than one inch. :x

74F here today. No rain in the forecast for at least a week. Normally February is the wettest month, but not this year.
I might have to start watering plants in the yard. All kinds of flowers are blooming and the pollen is getting thick in the air.

Much cooler today. Put away the water hose.
Monday
A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
Monday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44.
Tuesday
A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 60.

I had to water some stuff this week, as the forecast when I started was for a dry next week (and probably after that). Of course by the time I finished slow-watering the stuff that needed it, the forecast had changed to show likely rain by Thursday next week. As of just now, it's changed to show possible rain by Monday (10% chance) increasing thru Thursday to 40% then decreasing to 20% by Saturday.

But at least I had nice weather (if a bit warmer than perfect) for my week off of work, so I got a lot of work done outside, cleaning out my sheds of all the stuff i ain't used or seen in years, to turn them into workshops for various things, and store teh bits and bobs I do use infrequently.

Of course...the delay in my time off means that the bulk trash pickup (most of what i have isn't allowed in the recycle bin) started in our area *just* before I had anything to put out, so now all the unkept stuff will have to sit out in the yard by the alley until the end of April. (at least, all the stuff taht can't be put in the trash bin or recycle bin, since nothing I've got would be wanted by anyone else--I have it *because* no one else wanted it).
