Fun Show Folks!

Personally, stumbled across bettery-electric traction near 20 years ago. However, being a 21st-century Urban Guy... like, more than half the world now (?)... I'm mostly just interested in the "commute"... back and forth, around and around, on "smooth surfaces", mostly paved with concrete and asphalt...

Anyway... Two things, suggestions for future shows please?
1) Helmets and pads etc to help armour against the "ouchies". :)
... and 2) There's lots of folks now riding conversions, not just "store-bought"? (Like, I'm currently rolling on a recumbent trike, with thoughts about adding a "friction drive"...) So keep us DIY folks in mind?
Cheers ... from Toronto (Canada, eh?)

These "Horses of Iron" (vessels, with bows at least sheathed in iron...) actually FAIDED crews (only had steam-powered engines, despite plenty of winds to power generators..)

This was in 1845... some decades before Gustave Pierre Trouvé was rolling around the streets of Paris on his bettery-electric trike in 1881...

Hehe... Your mission for you today: Design one all-terrain vehicle "ATV" to speed you to the summit. (Vehicle features at least include a supply of oxygen bottles... plus masks (?) and charging via solar energy conversion...)

Think: Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) or lunar rover, battery-powered four-wheeled rover used on the Moon in the last three missions of the American Apollo program... just a lot faster.

Hehe... WARNING: ZIP to do with "ebikes"... but...

Just caught this "old" movie from 1953... Beneath the 12 Mile Reef:

... basically about the sponge diving biz in Florida. Was interested in these folks from Greece "adopting" this industry, and so looked it up... and found this:
Diving the Skafandro suit

... watt starts:
With it's size of about 8 by 16 kilometers Kalymnos is a fairly small island in the Aegean Sea. It is part of the Dodekanesos, a group of over 50 islands in the southeast of Greece.

Although sponge diving was a source of income for several Greek islands during the last centuries, Kalymnos is known to be the center of the Greek sponge diving industry. The waters around the Greek islands are very suitable for the sponges to grow, because of the high temperature. The best sponge quality is found in the southeast of the Mediterranean sea.

... and includes: "... between 1886 and 1910 about 10.000 divers died and 20.000 got pemanently disabled."

... Watt made me think of the 20th-century automotive industry.

Secrets Of The Dead The Ebike Enigma Where and when did "it" start?

Electric Pedal Assist Commuter Bikes Coming From Spin

Desc. on YT:
Spin, the bikesharing app for iOS and Android, announced on Monday that it plans to add pedal-assist electronic bikes for its urban commuters. Spin is adding the e-bikes to its fleet of available bicylcles in hopes of expanding the options for commuters interested in quickly and efficiently navigating urban environments. The bikes will be available to all of Spin’s partner locations – among them Seattle, Los Angles, and Washington, D.C. – in the coming weeks, with a full roll-out expected to take place by the end of 2018. Spin’s ebike features an in-house design equipped with a 250-watt motor capable of providing pedal-assisted speeds of up to 15 mph. The bike will have a range of about 50 miles on a single charge, and is equipped with swappable batteries that allow Spin staffers to keep the units powered up at all times.

Hire an Electric Bike in Frome

YT desc.:
Frome Town Councillor Richard Ackroyd takes the electric bike for a test run. Cycling is a great way to explore Frome, and the variable power settings make handling the hills a lot easier. Available to hire from Cycology, in Frome town centre. Find out more, and book an EBike here:
http://www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/ebikes/

To celebrate the 200th year of the bicycle, Frome Town Council is working with local partners to trial a local hire scheme for ebikes.
